#SmearForSmear campaign goes viral

There’s a new make-up selfie surfacing on Instagram – and it sure ain’t the polished look we’re used to.

In fact, you may have already noticed a number of women (and a few men) sharing snaps with lipstick smeared across their cheeks or chin, captioned with the #SmearForSmear hashtag.

A UK charity, Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust, started the campaign with the aim to raise awareness about the disease.

And now English beauty Georgia May Jagger (top) has jumped on the bandwagon, encouraging women to go get a pap smear, stat, with her own pouty pic.

The campaign is a timely reminder, especially for us Aussies. Recent statistics show only 57 per cent of Australian women aged 20 to 69 years have a Pap smear every two years like we’re supposed to.

So while they aren’t exactly the prettiest pics, here at bh, we think anything that gets people talking about the disease and the importance of smear tests is a good thing.

If you want to spread the message, join the #SmearforSmear campaign by snapping a pic of your smudged lippie and sharing it with that hashtag.

Have you or someone you know been affected by cervical cancer? Do you get regular Pap smears, or are you guilty of skipping them?
