George Clooney’s “Sweet” Message To Julia Roberts About Ageing

What was the last compliment you received from a friend? If you’re asking Julia Roberts, it was one about the appearance of her face (no surprises there). However, this compliment wasn’t about a lack of wrinkles, smooth skin or zero age spots, it was simply that she looked like herself. And the friend that gave it to her? Oh, just George Clooney. No big deal.

During a three month stint in Australia filming their latest film, Ticket To Paradise, Julia told Marie Claire’s November issue, “[George] has known me for such a long time and he is so sweet when he says to me ‘the fact that you have the same face is such a comfort.'” She continued, “I guess there is almost a nostalgia to see a longtime friend who still looks like your friend.”

Where does Julia stand on ageing naturally?

It’s this same nostalgia that recently prompted Julia to turn down an anti-ageing cosmetic treatment. “I went to a dermatologist recently for a skin check and he looked at the side of my face and says, ‘oh, do you want me to fill this in?'” pointing toward her smile lines. “Fill them in? You know how many good stories are in there? How many good laughs? How many great dinner parties? Fill them in? What are you talking about?,” she recalled.

Reflecting on the intense pressure women face to upkeep and maintain their appearance, she said, “ageing gets such a bad rap.” However, Julia is making it a priority to shut out the “outside voices,” focusing only on those that matter. One of the most important being her partner, David Moder. “When he’s looking at me, I feel immense joy,” she said. “He’s not looking at me [and thinking] like, she’s getting old. He’s looking at me like, ‘I’ve been with this person for 20 plus years. This is my person and this is what they look like.'”

Admitting this is how she feels today, Julia asks, “will I feel this way in 10 years? I don’t know.”  If Julia’s current attitude is any indication, we don’t think she’ll be anything but kind to herself as she ages.

What do you think about Julia’s attitude towards ageing?

  1. Some people don’t change their face too much as they get older, depends on how healthy you are and if you are blessed with good skin etc in the first place. And how much toxins you are exposed to in life, especially if you smoke or around smokers, a real killer for skin.

  2. Julia’s partner’s name is Danny Moder, not David Moder. I did laugh though in Ticket to Paradise when her daughter’s father-in-law to be said she reminded him of a beautiful horse!

  3. It is refreshing to find a famous person, Julia Robert’s, who at this stage, enjoys the look of her face with the smile lines. Love her reference to the smiles and laughs that gave them to her. George looks good as well.

  4. I haven’t seen them yet in Ticket to Paradise. Julia is such a natural beauty, I remember the last movie I ever saw at the drive in (which was years ago) was a Julia Roberts movie and I think she’s hardly changed at all since then.

  5. It’s a very Hollywood compliment though, isn’t it? Because everyone else around her no longer looks like themselves because of all the work they’ve had done.
