The surprising food that assists with weight loss

The best foods for weight loss are heavily debated, but we couldn’t help but be surprised with the latest advice from an expert researcher.

Following 15 years of investigation, Liverpool John Moores University Professor Rodney Bilton has recommended the consumption of unripe, green bananas for maintaining a healthy weight.

According to Professor Bilton unripe bananas are high in resistant starch, which helps moderate blood sugar levels and therefor prevent hunger cravings. They also encourage the release of a key fat-burning hormone, glucagon.

So if we were now to eat unripe bananas, what unlikely food would Professor Bilton have us avoid? The surprising answer is tofu, as it contains phytic acid that can block the absorption of essential minerals. But vegetarians need not panic – the Professor says the effect can be lessened if you consume it with miso, which contains bacteria that lowers the acid.
