Crazy things your body does

Crazy things your body does

The body is a weird and wonderful thing, isn’t it? If I were a scientist, I could go into all the cool ways your brain keeps your body and its inner-workings stable when the environment around you is always changing (fun fact: that’s called homeostasis).  But sadly, I’m not, so let’s just leave it at ‘your body is really smart and knows what it’s doing’.

Sometimes, though, it feels like our bodies are working against us and seemingly doing their darndest to embarrass us. Truth is, a lot of what our bodies do is absolutely normal.

Hair in unexpected places

For most women, the only place we want long, flowing hair is on our head. While it’s not ideal, we’ve learnt to deal with hair on our legs, underarms, and bikini line (try: Schick Hydro Silk for those pesky unwanted hairs!). Excessive hair above our lips, under our chins, and even on our stomachs is usually unwanted, and sometimes embarrassing. Excessive facial or body hair can be down to hormonal changes, your age, your genes, and even your ethnicity. All of these factors are completely out of your control, and your background or age doesn’t make you weird, so don’t feel embarrassed about how these things make you, you.
If unwanted hair is troubling you, try Andrea Extra Strength Hair Remover Body and Gentle Hair Remover Face.

Eye gunk

How often do you wake up to find crusty gunk in the corners of your eyes? Annoying (and not really attractive), right? Technically called rheum, it’s formed by a combination of discharge from the cornea, tears, leaked blood cells, dead skin cells from your eyelids, and dust. So basically the bad bits getting out of your body. The reason it crusts is because we’re asleep. When we’re awake, blinking helps wash it all away, but seeing as we don’t blink in our sleep, it collects.
If you notice a large amount of eye gunk, it could mean that your eyes are overly dry or you may have an eye infection.

Vaginal discharge

We’re used to having some discharge around ‘that time of the month’, but finding other discharge in our undies seems to be quite a shock and doesn’t seem normal. In fact, vaginal discharge is completely normal and is one of the ways in which your body works to keep your vagina clean and healthy (remember that fancy homeostasis word?). Vaginal discharge is so normal that it happens to most women of all ages (starting from puberty) in varying degrees.
Because vaginal discharge can leave you feeling a little uncomfortable ‘down there’, use breathable liners to keep you feeling fresh. Carefree® Acti-Fresh Liners, which have been designed with a super-absorbent core, help lock away wetness and odour, so you won’t be bothered by any discharge at all.

Toe jam

Toe jam is what happens when things like dead skin cells, sock fluff, dirt, body oil residue, fungus, and bacteria come together in between your toes. Toe jam can mean anything from dry, flaking skin to an infection or scabies, so while it’s normal to lose some skin cells, it’s best if you do your best to prevent any toe jam at all by keeping your feet clean. Use ShoeMistress Exfoliating Foot Gel to help remove those dead skin cells from your feet, while treating your tootsies to a cooling and soothing peppermint and menthol concoction.

Weird noises

From random throat gurgles and tummy rumbles to inadvertent flatulence (the average person expels flatulence 14 times a day!), there’s just no stopping those awkward noises that always seem to make an appearance when it’s deadly silent. Stomach growling can be explained by pockets of gas and air in between food and liquid in your digestive system. The emptier your stomach is (read: hungrier), the louder the sound. A growling throat is usually due to air too, though sometimes it may be a symptom of acid reflux – so if it’s occurring too much, you might want to get it checked out.
As for flatulence, well that’s just your body getting rid of gases that have come about through digestion. Unfortunately, we just have to let this one happen. Rather out than in…
