Competition: beautyheaven’s BlogStar promotion
Have you ever stopped to ponder just how much knowledge and skill you’ve acquired in the world of hair care, skincare and makeup over the years? Being members of beautyheaven I’d suggest that you’re already more savvy than the majority of the population, in the know about the latest and greatest products for everything from lining lips to zapping zits. But with thousands of products on the market and a growing list of “must-haves” and “must do’s”, I can’t help but wonder if we are all suffering from B.O. – Beauty Overload.
Don’t get me wrong, I can’t wait to log on for my daily dose of turquoise-coloured medicine, find out about the latest GWP, what samples I can score and the lust-worthy makeup looks sported by celebrities. Each day presents to me something I did not know about beauty the day before. However, if you’re of or around the same vintage as me – born on the tail end of Generation X that is – I imagine that you’d be able to remember a time when all things beauty were slightly less complicated.
Whatever happened to the days when having the whole collection if Impulse Body Sprays would have been considered a sophisticated fragrance wardrobe? Growing up as an Aussie kid, what would have been the point of zinc if it were invisible? Seriously, the fluorescent shades of green, pink and yellow zinc were the only colours I’d ever put on my face and even then it would have been under my eyes and on my nose, rather than on my lids, lips and cheeks. I remember being envious of friends whose lips smelled of cherry, vanilla and watermelon because they had acquired the latest Body Shop lip balm.
Now I can barely keep up with what I “need” to do to look good. I cleanse, tone, treat and moisturise my skin morning and night, not forgetting the eye cream, an exfoliation twice a week and a mask when I can squeeze it in… And that’s all just for my face! Now I’m told I’m missing the most important step of them all – hydration. Great, yet another product to add to my wish list or stuff into my already bulging beauty cabinet!
The strange thing is I just can’t seem to get enough. Like the moth that is attracted to the flame, I can’t resist the urge to splurge on my little “weakness” and indulge the beauty addict in me. The little pangs of guilt are nothing against the waves of pleasure I get from purchasing a pretty new product. The great thing is, on beautyheaven I’m surrounded daily by people who love it just as much as I do.
So beauties, who amongst you is in Beauty Overload and loving every minute of it?
