Suddenly it’s sexy to be a vampire…

And I couldn’t be happier. Having spent my life lurking in the shadows on hot days while jealously watching my tan-able friends bronzing in the sun, this sudden refreshing acceptance of pale skin has me looking forward to summer like Carrie Bradshaw looks forward to a Manolo sale and it’s all thanks to Twilight.

If you have yet to be swallowed up by the latest pop culture phenomenon, it’s time to board the Twilight train by injecting your look with a bit of vampire. From black to blood red nails and lips, sexy smoky eyes and Goth inspired fashion it’s time to drop the stake and get bitten.

While it’s easy to go over the top, the key to ‘vampire chic’ is to choose one or two elements that work cohesively with your own personal style. You don’t want to run the risk of looking like you’re on your way to a costume party instead of a day at the office or cocktails with the girls.

For the timid, nail polish is the perfect place to experiment. Keep it simple (and professional) for work with a blood red nail polish such as OPI Bastille My Heart and for weekends try a rich black nail such as OPI Witch Arm?. Keep nails filed short and square or you run the risk of channeling Morticia Addams and be sure to apply a base coat to avoid staining your nails.

Keep your skin flawless and burn free in the sun with a good tinted sunscreen with high SPF. Or, if you aren’t planning on being in the sun, a foundation with built in SPF will ensure you stay protected. To achieve a bit of vampire sparkle, use Napoleon Gleamer to highlight your cheekbones

For spring and summer, make your smoky eyes more homage to vampires than a direct reference by using shades other than black. Greys, browns, purples and blues are all great options; try Les 4 Ombres de Chanel in Bleu Célestes or Smoky Eyes. Featuring four fab shades that can be used together for a complete look or singularly, they can also cleverly be used as a liner. The perfect addition to your make up bag, it has a built in compact and is super cute.

Vampire inspired lips look best rich and red on a flawless complexion. The perfect red lipstick is out there, it just may take some researching to find which one works the best with your skin tone and hair colour. If the thought of red lipstick terrifies you more than a bloodthirsty vampire, try a splash of a red tinted gloss such as Lipstick Queen Red Sinner Shine.

Add dark glasses and an oversized hat for the daytime to add a little bit of glamour and mystery and unleash your inner vamp at night with sexy bed hair, the perfect LBD and sultry long lashes.
Unleash your inner vamp this summer, it won’t kill you…
