BlogStar entry: high definition – a little bit of Hollywood glamour

Competition: beautyheaven’s BlogStar promotion

I recently noticed my mother, ageing and dealing with pesky wrinkles that seem to show up overnight, was becoming more and more unimpressed with the mature-age products of normal cosmetic lines. These products looked caked on, thick, didn’t last long, and often did very little to hide her wrinkles. Forget about making her look younger! I went looking for a cure.

Created in the trailers of makeup artists in studio backlots, High Definition makeup is the new way to get mature age and problem skin looking fresh and young again. You know you’re in good company when the first manufacturer of High Definition makeup is Smashbox Cosmetics, owned by Davis and Dean Factor – great-grandsons of the legendary Max Factor.

What’s amazing about these products is they aren’t just suited to celebrities or film and television stars, or even people with ageing concerns: the everyday girl can use them. Need to look good for the formal or work function? HD will do the trick. Ready to party all weekend? HD makeup will keep up with you.

It works by reflecting light, not aborbing it like most other cosmetics. While this isn’t actually new, and some mineral products contain the same particles, High Definition makeup goes a few steps further. Unlike other products, you don’t need a lot of it to get full but natural coverage. As we all know, with full coverage comes a heap of benefits: not only does it conceal wrinkles, but it hides blemishes, evens out skin tones and discolouration from pigmentation, as well as fixes our acne woes.

It doesn’t just stop with foundation, either. See, High Definition makeup was created to make celebrities look natural not only in filming but at major red carpet events. So there’s a whole heap of products, from HD lipstick and moisturiser to mascara. Best of all, since they’re designed to look natural, it doesn’t feel as heavy as full coverage.

My best picks are Cargo’s blu_ray range (once you get past the name!), Smashbox High Definition Healthy FX Foundation SPF 15+, Makeup Forever HD Powder, and Christian Dior Capture Totale.

My mother is currently using Christian Dior Capture Totale and it works amazingly well to conceal her wrinkles, making her look younger by plumping her skin with collagen. The anti-aging and skin-firming formula has a very light, silky feel. The foundation blends with her face, and her sensitive skin can breathe underneath it. Because it reflects light, she looks as beautiful under harsh fluorescent light as she does under bright sunshine and mood lighting.

She looks so beautiful with it lately that I’ve been borrowing it from her, and it’s made a real difference in hiding my pigmented and discoloured skin, giving me loads of self-confidence. Try some next time you have a major event, not only will you be picture-perfect on the day, you’ll be dazzling for years to come.
