Adriana Lima’s easy home workout trick

She turns 33 today and is rumoured to have recently hooked up with pop singer Justin Bieber. Not bad going snagging a heart throb 13 years her junior but, then again, she is a Victoria’s Secret model.

Further proving that age really is just a number, Adriana has been using her 30s to hit the prime of her modelling career despite facing stiff competition from girls half her age. While you can’t deny a model’s success has a lot to with the lucky gene pool dip, this Brazilian model works hard to make sure she stays top of her game. In fact, when she was 31 she came in fourth on the Forbes top-earning models’ list with an estimated annual earning of $US7.3 million. And you don’t earn that kind of money in the modelling biz by not looking your best.

“I eat a balanced diet. The secret is to watch your portions but I also work out a lot,” says Adriana. “Working out a lot isn’t necessary but I am very active and my body can endure intense workouts. I love working out and food is a source of energy so it’s very important. I also have two kids and they keep me pretty much in shape running around the house!”

Like any mum knows, having children can make it hard to fit in an exercise session, especially when you’re no longer together with their father [Adriana split with with Serbian basketball player Marko Jaric in May after five years of marriage]. To get around her time restrictions, Adriana keeps a jumping rope in the house.

“With two little girls, it can be tough to find time to go to the gym. Jumping rope is something I can easily do at home – I try and squeeze it in during my daughters’ naptime. I just do 10 minutes of it whenever I can. You don’t need to work out for hours, just 10 minutes will do,” advises Adriana. The supermodel is also a fan of High Intensity Interval Training, muscular-focused exercises, boxing, Capoeira, and yoga for keeping in shape.

On top of exercise, Adriana is careful to watch what she eats. The brunette follows a control portion diet plan that sees her calorie intake decrease as the day progresses. A typical day will see Adriana eat oatmeal with raisins and egg whites for breakfast, fish, chicken or red meat with grilled green vegetables for lunch, and a salad for dinner. For snacks, she likes to have raw vegetables like cucumbers and carrots or a little bit of chocolate of spoonful of honey for energy.
