We're loving: nail mash-ups
Okay, I’ll be honest beauties, my good friend Sara from Dolly magazine gave me the heads up about this one – but hey, what’s the good in having other friends in glossy places if they don’t share the goods with you – am I right?
At a recent breakfast event, I spotted Sara’s nails, which seemed to look a little different to a traditional one-tone mani. I yanked her hand for closer inspection, and demanded, “What have you done to your nails?” She explained that she used patterned nail stickers on just her thumb and ring finger, and painted the rest a block hue, which then acts as a fabulous backdrop for the patterned nails.
I can’t believe I hadn’t thought of it before. What a creative way to embrace the nail sticker trend – especially if you don’t have the guts to cover all 10 digits in a crazy pattern, or if you want a great way to make your pack of nail stickers go further!
For this look, there are a few tips to keep in mind…
- - Decide on your digits. I went with the thumb and ring finger, but you can choose to use the nail stickers on any combination of fingers. Keep in mind that sticking to the ratio of two stickers to three painted nails makes the stickers a stand out.
- - Match them, a little. Try to choose a block nail colour that either features in/or goes well with your patterned nail stickers, this will act as the link that ensures the mash-up looks great together.
- - Make top coat your best friend. Not many people know, but top coat can be used to help seal your nail stickers in place, so slick a coat over the top to prevent peeling, stop nicks and make them extra glossy. Ensure you use top coat on your block colour nails, too.
- - Be creative. The crazier the nail sticker, the cooler your nails are going to look!
