Top nail trend predictions for 2019

Have you ever been stuck in a nail rut? We certainly have. Everything slips away from you when you decide to go for a manicure. You get so carried away with the prospect of a relaxing self-care appointment that you swan into the salon without having given the nail shade or nail shape a second thought and so usually just opt for your default (it all happens so fast!).

But if it’s high time you shook your nail look up, Cherie Pollard, CND Creative Nail Design National Education Team Leader, Australia, has predicted the nail trends that will be number one in 2019.
Bright colours
Cherie predicts there will be no more nude nails in 2019 and beyond. “...The time of the nude nail is about to leave the studio arena and we will welcome brighter colours for the first time in a few years,” Cherie says.
Vogue has also pointed to bright colours this year, naming ‘neon’ as the beauty trend of 2019.

Mismatching pedicures
When it comes to pedicures, we can all get a little (read: very) slack with upkeep. And it’s for that exact reason that Cherie explains the popular mani-pedi combination of 2019 will be one that doesn’t match. “Pedicures are performed less frequently [than] manicures, therefore, the colour is normally chosen to accompany multiple colours,” Cherie explains.
And what pedicure colours do go with everything?
When you’re picking different colours but still want them to complement each other, go back to the good old colour wheel. (Yep, Year 7 art is finally coming in handy!) You choose direct opposites on the colour wheel so, let’s say you’re a big fan of bright yellow nails, the opposite to pop on your toenails would be purples. And if you’re wanting a pedi colour to complement your more regularly-shifting mani, try to think what group of colours you usually go for. I know I usually stick within the red, pink and coral realm of colours for a manicure, so would opt for a blue or teal pedicure colour to keep me going!
Day-to-night nails
“The trend that dominates 2019 is art that can be worn from day to night and is classic in its simplicity,” Cherie says.
And the bh team believes the best way to nail this trend (pun heavily intended) is through a classic bright polish that has a hint of shimmer – so you can still sparkle in the evening.
Try using a bright and classic polish colour like coral or red that has an iridescent sparkle to it.
beautyheaven loves essence glow & care luminous nail polish in 05 love and care, Sally Hansen Miracle Gel® Romantic Rendezvous in Terra-Coppa and SinfulColors Shimmer in the shades Sugar Sugar and Glass Pink.
There’s one trend that’s always in style when it comes to manicures and pedicures: neat nails. No nails look nice without regular cutting and filing. Keep things tidy with the UBU Manic Mani - Nail Clippers, QVS Curved Nail Scissors and QVS Sapphire Nail File.
How do you normally do your nails? What nail trends do you see happening?

I’m boring when it comes to manicures. I usually stick to pinky nude colours. I like to keep it neutral and simple.

Is there any such thing as non-toxic nail polish?

Sure is! I am allergic to enamel so have tried everything but for convenience I keep going toward the Designer Brands display. Their 10 free formula is about as non-toxic as you can expect. There is also Mode, Australis, Sienna from Byron Bay to name a few. Don't give up.

Start any time. Learn a simple home manicure, and once in a while treat yourself to a professional mani. snd don't gorget yhose toenails. Mine are gnarled and damaged but look amazingly better with a pretty pedicure.

I rarely have the time to paint my nails. I used to have a tie nail infection which took years to clear. Now, when I paint my toe nails I make sure I never use the same polish on my fingernails. Just in case.

I stopped wearing nail polish when I ended up with a nail infection several years ago and I have just never got back into it. I keep thinking that I must but it just doesnt happen. Im actually quite happy without polish.

Hi Meedee. I think the trick is to change polish and do a complete manicure regularly. During the treatment any potential problems can be identified and hopefully eradicated. It is a good idea to sometimes manicure without any polish - a good buffing will suffice - to let your nails breathe.

Thanks Mashpa....my infection wasnt related to a salon or nail polish. It was a bad health issue which caused issues with my nails and scalp.

YESSSSSSSSSSSS to bright colours & mismatching mani/pedis! I sport both of these all the time pretty much (I rarely match my pedi to my mani), so I'm well ahead of the trend forecasts lol. I've only got 1 nude polish in my stash; the rest are all bright, dark or pastel shades.

I like to keep my nails a medium length, neat and curved. I used to always wear clear or nude shades but in the past year I've experimented with blues, greens, greys and burgundy and love them all.
