Products that will help keep germs at bay

We all know that germs are unhealthy. But did you know that they’re unhealthy because they can actually make you sick? Yep, those little bacteria attack healthy cells and infect them, taking you from bright, chirpy and on-top-of-the-world to slow, sluggish, and full of snot.
So if you want to keep that winter cold at bay, your best bet is to ensure that those germs get nowhere near your healthy cells. And these products will do just the trick to make sure that happens.
1. Palmolive Softwash Anti-Bacterial Liquid Handwash – this effective hand wash has been formulated to keep your hands fresh and clean, as well as effectively remove germs from your skin and underneath your nails. Oh, and don’t worry about your hands feeling dry – it contains a light moisturiser to keep them soft and smooth.
2. Dettol Instant Hand Sanistiser – Feeling a little grimy but there’s no sink and handwash in sight? Pffft, not a problem. Just make sure you’ve got one of these babies in your handbag. The gel will kill 99.99 per cent of germs instantly and will leave your hands feeling refreshed.
3. Natralus Instant Natural Antibacterial Hand Sanitiser Spray – This wonderful concoction of chamomile and apple blossom will leave your hands smelling fabulous and free of germs. Oh, and did we mention it’s made up of 99 per cent natural ingredients?
4. Dettol Glen 20 Spray Disinfectant – Kill germs before they’ve even had a chance to get onto your skin. The effective, fast-acting spray will kill germs and viruses on hard or soft surfaces in your home. Plus, it’ll help get rid of any bad, whiffy odours that are hanging around.
Uh-oh! Did the germs get to you before you could give them a good, swift kick in the behind? We hope you feel better soon. In fact, go to bed right now, pop on a DVD of The O.C and take some Vicks Vapodrops to soothe your throat and clear your nose.
What do you do to try ward off a winter cold? Do you use anti-bacterial handwash?

Love anti-bacterial hand washes. We usually just are careful with who we hang around in winter & stay away from sick friends/colleagues - seems to protect us all!

I use the Dettol one - it's so effective! A staple in my bag whenever I go out.

I always have olive leaf at home for respiratory infections and I use a natural antiseptic in the kitchen for chopping boards. Many people do not realise that society's obsession with antibacterial products may be counter-productive in the long-term as they contain chemicals with potential health risks.

I think washing hands with soap regularly (before/after eating, after coughing/etc) is the best and sufficient. Keep some moisturiser on you to keep your hands soft after all that washing!
If you use the right procedure, warm water and soap will get rid of virtually all the bacteria! Anti-bacterial stuff just helps.. create SUPER GERMS!! That will eventually prevail and destroy our immune systems, so let's keep it natural and wash our hands with some good ol' animal fat haha

I always have my flue injection and i carry with me hand sanitizer so that when i touch things like shopping trolleys i get back to the car and clean my hands. I am extra vigilant at the moment as my dad is in hospital so i always clean my hands, before i go into his room and again when i leave. Can never be too clean

Lots of vitamin C, lots of handwashing and good hygiene. I'm on immune-suppressants so simple colds really knock me around.

Good tips. I try to keep my immune system healthy though more than disinfecting everything I touch.

I eat healthy and take vitamins if I need them (stressed from uni work, on the go, etc), and I always carry wet wipes and hand sanitizer in my handbag. I'm never without them!

Great advice! I've started taking around anti bacterial wipes for when I'm out and eating with my hands. Gotta be more careful!

Have been living of garlic and horseradish tablets for the last few weeks trying to hold off illness. I also wash and dsenfect my bedding weekly and spray my room and pillows with glen 20 and use anti -back wipes on my keyboard and phone at work.

These are great suggestions, however, I think people can go over board trying to be germ free, which prevents the body from building up an immunity.

That's funny that I came across this blog just now - I've used two of those products today: the Glen 20 spray and the Natrasan Instant Hand Sanitiser. I'd definitely agree with the way the hand sanitiser smells nice on the hands after spraying them. It's a nifty little product.

I don't really like anti bacterial hand washes etc because I'm not too sure how safe they are. I think opening the windows and airing the place out is great, and cleans the air well.

I believe some germs are a good thing so don't bother too much with all that. But I do try to keep away from coughing and other sick people and if all else fails I make garlic zinc and echinacea tablets my friend for a week or so haha

This is so ironic - I think it's a pretty well documented notion that our 21st century addiction to everything being clean and '99.9% germ free' is the cause for all our ill health. We need to expose ourselves to germs sometimes to build up our immune system. Keeping everything super clean and germ free all the time just makes us more susceptible to illness.
