Expert Says We Won’t Be Getting Our Hair Done In Salon Until At Least Christmas

If you’re currently in lockdown in Sydney and NSW, a finance expert has made the grim prediction that it’s unlikely we’ll be getting our hair done until Christmas. Ain’t that a kick in the guts?

Wondering what a finance expert would know about such things? Well, Latitude CEO Ahmed Fahour has said that after Victoria’s lengthy lockdown in 2020, the personal lender’s loan volumes increased by 43 per cent.

He’s predicting a repeat occurrence once the current lockdown eases, saying that those living in Sydney will be keen to get out and enjoy life without thinking too much about their wallets. And this, of course, includes beauty treatments.

‘Hairdressers, beauty salons, all these things – you will not be able to get an appointment in NSW. It will be booked out,’ Mr Fahour told The Australian Financial Review.

“Once we get out of this environment, you will see a huge explosion in growth because people want to enjoy life, they want to enjoy Christmas.”

Damn straight we want to enjoy Christmas – but we want good hair while we’re at it!

The theory of this cash splashing spike has been dubbed ‘revenge spending’, and stems from the idea that we’ll all want to make up for the lost time spent in lockdown.

So if you were putting off a DIY hair colour in the hopes you’ll slide right into your hairdresser’s seat come restrictions lifting, you may want to rethink your strategy (or book that appointment in advance now).

Need an at-home hair dye?

If you’re looking to touch up your roots only, we highly recommend Clairol Root Touch-Up Permanent ($9.49 at Chemist Warehouse)  – the applicator brush it comes with makes targeting the section a breeze.

For an all-over colour, nothing beats Napro Palette ($5.99 at Chemist Warehouse) and Schwarzkopf Brilliance ($14.99 at Chemist Warehouse) for a shiny finish – and don’t forget to cater for the men at home too with Schwarzkopf Men Perfect ($10.49 at Chemist Warehouse).

But if you’d rather wait it out than mess with your professional colour, sit tight and perhaps add a colour-protect shampoo and conditioner to your shower lineup. Sebastian Professional Color Ignite Mono Shampoo for Coloured Hair ($36.95 at hairhouse.com.au) and the matching conditioner both will do the job nicely.

And if it really is going to be that long before we get to sit in a salon chair again, consider using the time at hand to work on some other hair goals.

Perhaps you’ve always wanted to grow it long? Or see what it looks like when you leave your greys to flourish? Or, if you’ve been experiencing hair loss or thinning, it could also be a good opportunity to commit to a thickening system like the Nioxin System 3 Trial Kit for Coloured Hair with Light Thinning.

Whatever you decide to do, we’re making the pact now that we will not judge each other’s hair when this is all over.
