The surprising trend wealthy women are turning to

If you could afford to get your hair coloured at the salon every time you would, right? Well, not necessarily.

New data from Roy Morgan Research has shown that despite sales of home hair-colouring products declining over the last five years, the percentage of affluent women buying home hair dye is actually on the rise.

Home hair colour purchase by income:

According to the research, 27 per cent of women with an income of $100,000 or more purchased home hair colour in an average six months to March 2014, up from 25% in 2010. While a 2 per cent increase doesn’t seem much at first glance, this equates to a growth of 70,000 women.

While the survey didn’t investigate the reason for the trend, Roy Morgan’s Group Account Director Angela Smith suggested it “could very well be a factor of convenience”.

“Busy women on high incomes who feel pressure to always look their best may be opting to colour their hair at home rather than sacrifice two or more hours at a salon,” she said.

We agree with that theory – and why not? With so many awesome, salon-quality hair colours on the market, it’s becoming much easier (and more rewarding) to simply do it yourself. Check out a few of our favourite (and most effective) at-home hair colours…
