There’s no better feeling than waking up to a good hair day. Especially when that good hair day is all thanks to natural ingredients. Because for the formula detectives out there looking to do their bit for the environment, making the switch to natural haircare is a no brainer.
But it’s also important to know that the journey to swishy, shiny, au naturale hair is a process. So don’t expect things to magically change overnight.
Instead, here’s exactly what you can expect…
You’ll have less of a lather
The first thing people tend to notice when trying natural haircare for the first time is the lather. A natural shampoo won’t foam as much as they don’t contain harsh sulphates. However, don’t be fooled into thinking you need to use more to compensate. Instead, follow the instructions and use some water to help it lather, taking care to massage it into the scalp.
For those with fine or limp hair (and a fear of it being weighed down), Sukin’s Volumising Shampoo is a great match. It’s lightweight and purifying for that fullness you love, with a naturally derived blend of pineapple, mango and papaya extracts to nourish the scalp.
Your hair needs time to detox
Just like eating one salad can’t immediately make you ‘healthy’, one wash with natural haircare isn’t going to get you crowning glory results.
Your hair and scalp need time to detox and rebalance, which can take some time (depending on how frequently you wash). It’s for this reason you should try Sukin’s #10washchallenge before making your mind up.
After a few washes you’re likely to find your hair begins to rebalance, with less oil at the roots and more moisture towards the ends – exactly how it should be. A little commitment is worth it when making the switch.
Switching to natural haircare includes styling and treatments too
Your hair routine extends beyond shampoo and conditioner, and so too does natural haircare. From scalp scrubs to masques and treatment oils, there are plenty of plant-powered options to suit your hair type and needs.
One that’s particularly handy during the transition period to natural products is Sukin’s Volumising Thickening Spritz. This one you can apply from roots to ends on damp, towel-dried hair, before blow-drying for a little extra natural va-va-voom.
Have you ever tried natural haircare products?
I haven’t used Sukin haircare products. I usually use salon quality products.
Thanks BH for the information regarding Natural Hair Care Products most of us do tend to use more shampoo and conditioner if it doesn’t sud up enough. Great Advice!
I changed over to natural products about 5 years ago, their are so many more affordable options available now. It takes a while to get to used to it but I am glad I did.
I generally have had really good experiences using Sukin products.
I have used Sukin shampoo before and from what I can remember it did a good job
Less lather, most of the time, yes. Atm I am not using any natural based haircare.
Always a good thing to switch to natural products
Well this would be why my daughter decided that natural shampoo was not for her and it didnt work.
I have used Sukin for skincare but I have not tried their haircare products to date, thanks for the heads up regarding what to expect.
Looking forward to trying this new Sukin hair range!
These hair products look promising. My sister is a big Sukin fan, I’m sure she’ll love these.
I did try Sukin hair care once, unfortunately my hair hated it. Shame, because I use a lot of their body products which are great.
Have been using natural haircare for years. Sukin used to make the best protein hair treatment mask but unfortunately it isn’t stocked anymore.
When there’s little or no lather, I DO use more product: how else can I get shampoo all over my oily scalp & through my waist-length hair?
I have a very sensitive and reactive scalp, so as most of the natural shampoos contain essential oils, they tend to irritate my scalp. ATM I’m using an unscented (but not natural) shampoo which doesn’t irritate.
I have, but can’t say I’ve been overly impressed with natural hair products (have tried one of the Sukin shampoos before & didn’t like it – I use it now to wash my hair brushes instead). I prefer/use salon quality stuff instead.
I’ve tried natural hair care products but I wasn’t that impressed with them. I haven’t tried the Sukin hair care range.
I love Sukin!
I’ve got one in the cupboard but haven’t tried it yet
very handy to know
Sucking isn’t for me, but I do love a good organic, natural product…
I had no idea that sukin made hair care products (I’m a bit behind sorry) but sounds pretty good!
The Sukin shampoo and conditioner is my go to. It works so well
I would love to try this brand.
Might have to switch for a while and see how it goes
I can see that it doesn’t have good overall reviews though. But I want to try it regardless.
I always use natural products but haven’t yet tried Sukin’s shampoo and conditioner. I’m definitely going to give it a try when I finish my current one.
Good to know not to expect a good lather
I like the sound of the styling products
Might have to try
I haven’t tried this brand before.
looks very nice
I urge anyone who is thinking of trying a natural shampoo to take the plunge, after a transition period(for 1 or 2 weeks plan on your hair looking bad) it makes such a huge difference. I’ve been told my hair had gone from being one of my worst features to one of my best.
I’ve been trying a lot of different natural shampoos and conditioners over the last 2 years and there is definitely an adjustment phase. It’s true about the lack of lather and you think the product isn’t doing it’s job, but it does. Also, the natural tendency is to put more on but that’s just wasteful.
Love to try natural products but found it difficult as my hair is fine and limp. So the helpful hints here may haqve me headed in the right direction
I’ve had a similar issue, but I sometimes find doing two rounds of shampoo using less product has made it go further if that’s any help:)
I’ve marked Michealporter‘s post & the two posts below, by Haley Christopher as SPAM.
Thanks for replying SandraC – I DO always double shampoo! With low-foaming shampoos, I still have to use more. Natural shampoos might work for less greasy gals, but it just doesn’t cut through my oil slick, haha.
So much spam!
Good to know
Would love try this range.

getting use to less lather and realising my hair is clean will take a bit of training
I love Sukin products so yes I will give it a try thank you.
See if I hadn’t read this article, I’d still be wondering how my shampoo wasn’t lathering up. I’m keen to try out the sukin volumising shampoo and conditioner.
Thank you Beautyheaven for keeping us informed.
Might have to take the plunge and try switching
