The app that asks strangers to make your beauty decisions

Have you ever stood in front of the mirror, wondering, ‘should I wear red lipstick or nude? Should I style my hair straight or go for curls?’

I’m guessing the answer is yes. Beauty decisions are tough, people!

But now there’s a new app that takes the decision-making out of your hands.

Available for Android and iPhone, the Hunt is a style and shopping app originally created to allow women share photos of their outfits and beauty looks and have a pool of four million members offer up advice on where to find them (or something similar).

As of this week, you can also ask for people’s views when you’re facing a styling dilemma; for instance, the merits of the hair colour you’ve been coveting before you head to the salon, or what lippie goes best with your new dress.

So, how does it work? Well, you upload two pictures of yourself showcasing different looks, provide some context (i.e. you’re heading to a christening and not a nightclub) and sit back as members give you feedback and vote on which look works better.

According to the Hunt CEO Tim Weingarten, the average question is getting 10 to 15 responses within a few minutes of posting and 80 opinions within 24 hours.

You might be thinking, “I don’t need someone else to decide what looks good on me – I’ll make my own beauty decisions, thanks very much,” and all power to you, but if I had 80 people leaning overwhelmingly towards a particular styling decision, I’d probably go with that one! Just sayin’.

Plus, it takes the awkwardness out of parading in front of your boyfriend/roomies/postman (not to mention the pressure off them to decide).

Would you use the Hunt beauty app? Do you struggle with beauty decisions, or do you find them easy?
