Expert reviews: 4 beauty buys under $25

How daring are you when it comes to beauty?
Would you ever try a bright coloured hair chalk or something for your downstairs department? Or do you like to stick to the basics like body wash and shampoo?
Whichever way you sway, you can always rely on bh to try it for you first, so you’ll always have an idea of what to expect (daredevil or not).
Colour Addict Coloured Spray Chalk Cyan
bh’s Sophia says:
"I LOVE experimenting with my hair! It brings me so much joy and I feel so proud when my hairstyle is complimented. Having been almost every workplace-safe hair colour under the sun in the last three years, you could say I have commitment issues, so Colour Addict's Coloured Spray Chalk in Cyan allows me to rock an intense blue quiff as and when I feel to indulge my inner wild-child. The fact it completely covers my black hair is an indication of how gloriously intense the pigment is, and easily washes out in the shower. My fellow wild-childs, this one is a must for you!"

Pantene Pro-V Ultimate 10 Repair & Protect Shampoo & Conditioner
bh’s Sam says:
"Since becoming a blonde, I’ve been very picky about my haircare, so I was a little sceptical about using a supermarket brand. Both products had a nice fragrance and were thick in texture, which I always find to be a good first sign. The shampoo lathered really well, so I only needed to use a small amount. However, it did tangle my hair quite a bit so I had to compensate by using more of the conditioner and applying it closer to my roots than I usually would. This isn’t unusual for me though, because my bleached hair tends to need more moisture than virgin hair. But once the conditioner was left for a few seconds, my hair smoothed right out. I like to use a big toothed comb in the shower and my hair was easy to comb through. Once rinsed and dried, my hair had loads of volume and shine, and a little less frizz too which could be due to more moisture. After using the products for a month, I’m happy to say I had the same results long term. I’ll definitely run out of conditioner before shampoo, but considering how affordable these are, it’s not so much of a worry."

DermaVeen Daily Nourish Soap Free Wash and Lotion
bh’s Beth says:
"This body care duo is right up my alley: Soap-free, non-scented, generously sized (the 1L bottles are enormous and such great value) and most importantly, effective. The body wash formula has a milky consistency and lathers up really well, so I actually feel like my skin is getting a proper clean. It rinses off easily and leaves my skin feeling soft and smooth, rather than stripped and dry like other soap-heavy formulas I've tried. The only issue I had was with the pump action of the bottle – no amount of twisting would release it, which meant I had to pour the formula directly out of the bottle (the pump for the lotion worked fine though, so I think this could have been a one-off). The body lotion has a smooth, not-too-heavy-or-sticky texture which makes it easy to spread evenly over my skin. I need a generous amount to cover my whole body, but that's fine with me considering the 1L size! My skin is left feeling soft, soothed and looking glowy – probably due to the calming colloidal oatmeal in the formula. The verdict: If you prefer sweetly scented products with glitzy packaging, these products probably aren't for you. But if you're more like me and love body care products that are convenient, gentle on the skin and genuinely nourishing, you'll love these!"

Vagisil ProHydrate Internal Hydrating Gel
bh’s Kelly says:
"Adult playtime is one of the only fun things in life that doesn’t cost a bomb or make you portly. So when there’s issues in the bedroom, the Os are turned into “oh god nos”, creating tension between the couple. Vaginal dryness is an issue that isn’t fun for anyone involved. Lady parts should be relatively moist for intimate activity and when what we’re taught in health class doesn’t happen ‘naturally’, it can be frustrating in more ways than one. Over the past decade or so we’ve had lube on the market, which acts as a great short-term solution but certainly isn’t helping the root cause of the issue. Enter Vagisil ProHydrate, pre-filled applicators that you use every few days, which promise to gradually release the solution to feel like your own natural moisture. The applicators don’t have a strong odour or feel uncomfortable to use in the slightest, I really enjoy using them as the comfort payoff is phenomenal. My vagina (and my boyfriend) are much happier!"

Sophia, you must enjoy working at BH where you are not restricted to so-called work appropriate hair colours.

Spray hair chalk looks fantastic!! I don't like the one in the little pan, it's really messy, so this would be ideal to change up the colour without insane mess!

To be fair - having now done two trials for Pantene shampoo and conditioner, I have completely changed my impression on Pantene and I don't understand why it has such a bad reputation. Sure it is not the best product ever invented but it really is not bad - and I have used quite a few that are worse at that price point.

Pantene used to have one of the worst reputations for hair products a while ago. I think this was due to the type and/or amount of silicones their products contained. I wonder if they have started to reformulate their products.

The colour spray looks like so much fun!!!!! I am checking this out now!
ETA: 5 reviews and "0% OF REVIEWERS RATED THIS PRODUCT AT 4 OR 5 STARS" That's a pretty sad reputation on BH!

I'd have to be 50 years younger and much more game than I ever was to try the hair chalk. Good on you those who are happy to use this type of product though.

That blue hair looks amazing! I've used blue, pink & purple temporary colours which last a few washes, but they look a bit sad when it's half washed out.

I'm surprised by how well the hair chalk works! I always think you have to have light blonde hair for those things to work.

3 out of 4 things interest me here. I can't believe how well the hair chalk worked on Sophia's black hair. No wishy washy hair colour there but I bet it does feel like chalk.

Hey Sparkle77! :) The texture of the spray was similar to that of dry shampoo, so yes, a little dry and chalky. Such a fun and easy way to jazz up your look though!

I haven't used Pantene for awhile. I wouldn't mind trying the repair and protect shampoo and conditioner.

The Vagisil product sounds so strange! So it pretty much leaks discharge? Maybe it's suitable for post menopausal women..?
