Hair trend alert: 1970s-style waves

If we had to pick the top hair trend for 2015, it would have to be soft, 1970s-style waves. Seen on the runway at Michael Kors, Anna Sui and Alice + Olivia, it was an instant hit with hair stylists, becoming one of the hottest looks to be unveiled at last month’s Hair Expo.
Aveda’s Global Creative Director, Antoinette Beenders, replicated the slightly dishevelled and oh-so romantic style at the Stella McCartney Resort 2015 presentation. Now, she says, it’s catching on with the masses.
“What we’re seeing on the streets right now is a softer, almost DIY style that looks as if the girls cut their fringes themselves, so it isn’t polished perfection,” she says.
“Hair isn’t stagnant; it moves, it lives with us, it goes through things. This softer style makes each cut completely original and unique to the wearer.”
And the best part? According to Antoinette, “the softness, shine, and ‘classic’ foundation” of the style makes it wearable for all women!
To get this “do it-yourself hair” look, Antoinette recommends playing with your hair’s texture, mixing wavy styles with straight ends. For a shiny, frizz-free and model-worthy finish, use a barrier against humidity such as Aveda Smooth Infusion Naturally Straight Styling Crème, which helps fend off fly-aways in the most humid environments.

Apart from a few BAD perms in my youth I think I've been in the 70's hair trend all my life lol. I'm so not good at styling and am over the moon if my hair looks something like these lol

Must we return to the bum part? I was so happy when I grew out of the 70's child hair styles my mother forced me to wear. She sported them too as I remember. My three sisters and I often felt the spit soaked hand of out mother, smoothing the fly away's down. There must be those of you who also lived this... actually they were great years. I love the subtle wave of improvement too.

My hair is naturally like this anyway. I do like it to have a little more wave and volume tho. :)

My hair is naturally straight, booo :( Wish it had a bit more wave! But luckily it means it's very low maintenance.

I prefer a side part but other than that the looks above are quite natural and relaxed.

Trying it this week as I'm on holidays and had to choose between taking my straightener and my curler :) I love this style and think it suits almost everybody.

I like the idea of natural looking hair, but I don't think I'll quite be adopting the look of those models. The centre part they're all rocking will make my thick square face look even thicker.
