Ella Henderson reveals her beauty secrets

British singer and songwriter Ella Henderson has recently been announced as the new face (or, uh, I guess hair) of dry shampoo brand, Batiste.

And it’s not hard to see why:

beautyheaven was lucky enough to chat to the ambassador about her new role, her best beauty tips and tricks, and how she keeps her hair looking so healthy and fabulous.

beautyheaven: Congrats on the role with Batiste! I understand that you’ve developed your own scent – is that correct?

Ella Henderson: It’s so exciting. I can’t believe that my very first endorsement deal is something that I massively believe in and something that I use every day anyway. And when it came to my scent, I got involved with trying to create my ideal can of what kind of fragrance I liked. And hopefully a lot of girls will enjoy it the same way I do.

bh: Before your own scent, did you have a favourite?

EH: Probably the blonde one because I have blonde hair. It’s lovely in my roots to just really freshen them up, and it gives a bit more of a glow as well.

bh: Do you ever use the dry shampoo to create certain hairstyles (rather than just tackling grease)?

EH: I use it a lot for texture and volume, and to create different hairstyles. If ever I’m doing an up-do or a side-plait, it really helps with that messy, textured hair where you don’t have to use a lot of grips. It just holds it in place for you.

Also, you know, in my job I haven’t got the time to wash my hair every single morning or every single night the way I would like to – I’m on a plane or in a car and [the dry shampoo] is a great thing to have on you when you just want to freshen up so you don’t walk around looking like a mess.

bh: You have incredibly thick and luscious hair – do you have any styling tips and tricks to share?

EH: I would say to use a really great hair mask on your hair. I mean, with what I do, I have my hair done pretty much nearly every day, so I put on a hair mask depending on how much heat is being put on it. I would say at least once a week or twice a month I put a really good one on. Then I cover my hair in cling film so it kind of sweats it out and I sleep like that and then I wash it out in the morning.

bh: Is that something that you kind of just tried yourself or was that an expert tip?

EH: Well, I can remember once I went to the hairdresser’s and when I had my hair mask on, they wrapped my hair in a towel and left it for ages. I figured it’s not that comfortable sleeping in a towel because it’s quite heavy, so I thought of cling film. And actually, it’s really good because you can see when it has all gone dry and when it’s ready to wash out.

bh: Besides using dry shampoo, what other ‘get ready quickly’ beauty tricks do you have up your sleeve?

EH:  Probably picking a very quick, simple outfit that I know is going to look great – something like a jumpsuit. Or with my make-up, I just go for a really nice moisturiser and then a tinted moisturiser and bronzer, and curl my lashes really quickly with an eyelash curler. But I always heat them up first with a hair dryer for extra bend. And then a bit of mascara and away I go. That’s probably my everyday look when I do my own make-up. Normally, if my hair isn’t looking too great, I’ll use Batiste and just spray it all in the roots to give it lot of texture, and then I do a top knot.

bh: Can you talk us through your daily skin care routine?

EH:  The first thing I do is I put freezing cold water on my face to wake me up because I’m the worst morning person. Then, I always cleanse, tone and moisturise pretty much every morning and every night. If I’m too tired and I fall asleep with my make-up on – like all girls do every now and then – the next day I notice that my skin is not the same. It’s not as glowing and it’s not as fresh. So it definitely works to wash at night.

bh: What’s the one piece of beauty advice that you’d give women?

EH:  To embrace what you have, and less is more.

How do you use dry shampoo? What’s your best hair styling trick?
