The 6 emotional stages of using dry shampoo

Dry shampoo is like magic. It conceals greasy strands (and sins) and gives hair just the right amount of grit, making it a favourite in our beauty arsenals. And given it’s one of the best beauty cheats in the biz, it’s little wonder we’re so emotionally invested in its goodness. Can you imagine going on vacay without it?!

From the moment you realise today is definitely going to be a dry shampoo day, to the satisfaction of spraying it and bringing your hair back to life, there are plenty of thoughts that go through your mind when using the best invention ever...
1. Realising your hair is in need of a wash
Your alarm goes off for the fourth (or is it fifth?) time and you finally roll out of bed with the full knowledge you’re going to be late for work. As you brush your teeth, you look at your hair and become aware of just how greasy it is…
2. And then completely deciding against it
Secretly, you’re sort of glad you don’t have time to wash your hair because quite frankly, you can’t be bothered. It’s not that dirty, anyway. Plus, that extra twenty minutes could be spent doing far more important things, like scrolling through Instagram or watching Netflix. Heck, you could even do your nails while watching Netflix! It’s amazing what you can achieve in twenty minutes when you really put your mind to it.

3. Making the magic happen
When it’s time to do your hair, you reach for the dry shampoo and suddenly feels as if all is right in the world. You’ve got this. And you couldn’t be happier with your decision to not wash, dry and style your mane. With your hair lifted in sections in one hand, and the dry shampoo firmly in the other, you start spraying your roots. Every spritz gets rid of a little bit more grease, and adds a little bit more oomph. Prepare for total transformation...
4. Admitting temporary defeat
Oops. It turns out you can have too much of a good thing. When you’re overly enthusiastic and end up with powdery white patches, it can dent your self-confidence (and make you regret the decision not to wash it in the first place). But never fear - like indigestion, this too shall pass. You can blend in the excess by massaging your scalp. Crisis averted. You were just being silly.

5. Brush it through
You’re a master! Post-massage, you quickly brush your hair to absorb any dry shampoo residue and literally brush away your worries. That time-saving mentality is well and truly back, baby!
6. Admiring the freshness
Hey girl, look at you! With hair this good, you can now leave the house without shame. Give your hair the big two thumbs up, because with so much bounce, what’s not to smile about? And the best part? You did it in under five minutes.

I used to love dry shampoo and use it a lot, but for some reason I’ve gone off it and I only use it in desperation now. Perhaps I need to change brands? I still make sure I’ve always got some.

I dread washing my hair so I love dry shampoo. That being said, it definitely can't beat a proper wash.

I tried a dreadful dry shampoo years ago and swore it off after that... now I just started using Batiste (after my bff gave me a can of it) and I am ADDICTED.

I don't use dry shampoo very often. When I do, I like Klorane with Nettle (for oily hair). I also like sampling the different Batiste scents.

My faves are Herbal Essences Naked Dry Shampoo and Palmers Olive Oil Dry Shampoo. The only ones so far that don't make my scalp itch after using. They help me stretch out my washes to once or twice a week which is great for keeping my colour.

I probably wouldn't be able to use a dry shampoo with my hyper sensitive scalp

I am also concerned if washing hair would take even more efforts after using a dry shampoo

I use batiste but only use it for the one day, then wash out the next. I find my head feels too dirty and makes me want to itch it if I leave it any longer.

Funny! I don't love dry shampoo. Maybe I just haven't found the right one yet, but I'll finish my current one before I move to the next one. I generally prefer to wash my hair the night before :)
