Editor-approved hair transformations you have to see: Medium

MEDIUM TRANSFORMATION #1: CAITLIN

Sometimes you crave a change, which is exactly why I got rid of my creamy blonde balayage in favour of a brunette hue. “Give me a super low maintenance, rich colour that will suit my olive skin and dark features,” I told my hairdresser before she worked her magic. The end result? A solid, medium brown shade that gradually faded with my highlights for a more natural, sun-kissed look. I couldn’t be happier with the end result. It’s way closer to my natural shade, which means I don’t have to worry about touching it up so often. Now I just keep a bottle of John Frieda Precision Foam Colour in Medium Chocolate Brown in the shower and massage it through my locks when my colour is looking a little dull (once a month, or so). Now my hair is super healthy, always shiny and I swear it’s grown about 5cm in less than six months.

MEDIUM TRANSFORMATION #2: MICHELLE

OK, I know this looks like a pretty major transformation, but it took place over 18 months, which is why we’re calling it a “medium”. My black bob was such a signature ‘do for so many years that even now, some of my friends still expect me to be sporting it. Giving it up was hard but honestly, dealing with the regrowth – via monthly hairdresser appointments – was even harder. To combat the issue (and get back some spare time), I started to go progressively lighter but after years of such a dramatic colour, I found brown hair to be too wishy-washy and drab. I don’t really do long hair so for me, a great colour is everything. And so I decided to go blonde on a whim. My hair throws a lot of red so it took a few sessions in the chair to get to the creamy platinum blonde shade that I have now but I’m so happy with the result that it was definitely worth the effort. I’m often asked about the maintenance but the upkeep on this is actually easier than dark brown, yes really! I keep it from going brassy with the John Frieda Sheer Blonde Colour Renew Tone-Correcting Shampoo and Conditioner. Plus, the extra texture I get from having a lighter shade makes styling it much easier. The lesson I’ve learnt: don’t assume blonde will be more work as it doesn’t always turn out that way.
