MAJOR TRANSFORMATION #1: MICHELLE
Every couple of years I do a big colour transformation. My latest one, from red to blonde, was instigated by the birth of my second child. During pregnancy my hair was thick and luscious, then afterwards it started falling out, was harder to maintain (with no time for refreshing the colour or the additional washing from staining my pillowcases pink!) and was looking a bit drab. I needed a change. At first I wanted a few highlights so asked for balayage, but straightaway I realised that it wasn’t enough. So back in the chair I went for a full head of foils. The result is a brighter look that makes me feel like I’ve updated my appearance but is actually less maintenance than before. I can get away with messier, air-dried hair when it’s lighter, some hair oil raked through when it’s wet and I’m all done.
MAJOR TRANSFORMATION #2: SOPHIA
There’s no better feeling than chopping your hair off and saying “goodbye” to the memories that were attached to a particular look, or version of yourself. Last year was a tough year. There was personal loss, romantic heartache, friendship breakdown, and a new job. There were some really fun moments and great experiences, but in general 2015 was an emotional roller-coaster. On Christmas Eve I strolled into my hairdresser of more than 15 years armed with screenshots of Ruby Rose and Pink, (I NEVER do subtle changes) and briefed him to “chop it off”. With each snip of the scissors I felt my worries, stresses and angst lift off me – I was literally cutting 2015 away. An hour-and-a-half later, I walked out of the salon feeling like a completely new person. The power of a good haircut to lift your mood and self-esteem should never be underestimated, and I feel the beginning of a new year is the best time to unleash a fierce new empowered version of YOU! Hair grows back, so take the risk and do something drastic – you’ll thank me later.
