The on-trend hairstyles to try this autumn

We're all well versed in our general beauty seasonal switch-ups - in fact, we tend to swap our perfume and lipstick out in favour of autumn-appropriate scents and shades as soon as March hits - but what about our hair?
A glossy blowdry is gorgeous all year round, of course, but don't our strands deserve an autumnal refresh too? (Spoiler alert: yes, they do.)
Let your locks live a little this season with these on-trend autumn hairstyles - have a peek through and then tell us you're not tempted to test-drive a few...
The puff pony

Puffy skin? Not great. A puffy ponytail? Glorious. Take tresses into a pony, leaving a few face-framing pieces free to soften the style. Once secured, add another tie a few inches down (the distance will depend on your length), then taper it in just before securing, pulling a piece out of each section to wrap around the elastic. Repeat until you're close to the ends, leaving a small section free at the bottom.

The chic chignon

Sleek always equals chic. Use a shine-boosting pomade to sweep strands back behind the ear, keeping hair slick to the head and your preferred part in place, then twist into a low chignon at the nape of the neck and secure with pins.

The natural wonder

If you're blessed with natural curls or coils, your look is basically already done - why mess with that glorious texture? Let your curls take centre stage, and just add a little curl-enhancing creme and an accessory - like this scarf - for an effortlessly chic look. Perfection.

The pin party

Whoever said down-dos were boring never met this look. It's crazy easy to achieve, but screams polished - just slot pins in facing a few different directions. You can add the accessories over any texture, but it looks particularly pretty on a subtle wave.
The no-fuss knot

Having less length can make it tricky to test-drive some styles, but this half-up twist was made for a bob. To keep the look low-maintenance avoid pulling your 'up' section directly from the hairline - grab it from a few inches back instead. Twist the portion you've picked up (about a third of your hair) into a knot at the back and add a tie or a few pins to secure it, leaving remaining locks loose (and free of flyaways thanks to a smoothing cream).

The polished pony

Polished but not super sleek, this pony is all about just the right amount of volume. Blow dry strands smooth with a slight wave, pull back into a pony, and secure. For extra 'done' factor, wrap a piece of hair around the tie, and pin in a pearl accessory.
The textured flip

Leave glassy blow waves for winter and embrace piecey texture this season - spritz strands with salt spray, use a tong to curl pieces in varying directions (leaving ends out for a more undone vibe), then flip your part to one side to build major volume.

Never will like: puffy hair styles (eek, 60s). Though, when air-drying hair I look like a human fuzz ball for couple of hours.
