Soften dehydrated hair

Soften dehydrated hair

Written: July 2006

Frequent heat styling, chemical treatments, indoor heating and harsh weather can strip your hair of moisture, leaving it dry, coarse and unmanageable. But you can coax dehydrated locks back to silky softness with a little love…

Replenish parched tresses with a moisturising shampoo and conditioner. We like Matrix Biolage Hydratherapie Hydrating Shampoo and Conditioning Balm, $23.40 each, for giving dry locks a much-needed hit of hydration. If your hair is extremely dry or suffering the aftermath of chemical straightening or bleaching, try intensely hydrating products like Goldwell Kerasilk Ultra Rich Care ShampooandGoldwell Kerasilk Ultra Rich Care Treatment, $18.50 each.

Indulging in a regular hair treatment will also help keep dry hair feeling soft and looking shiny. Terax Original Crema, $24,95, works wonders – it has a slightly alkaline mantle that helps open the hai cuticle, allowing the protein-rich formula to penetrate to where dry hair needs it most.

Extra Tip:
Mild heat causes the cuticle to swell, making it easier for the hair to absorb treatments. In the shower, pop a shower cap over conditioner and stand under the warm stream or, on dry land, wrap your hair in cling film or a towel and find a warm spot to sit.
