How to pull off short hairstyles with curly hair

Short curly hair is a minefield. At times it can look as glam as Sarah Jessica Parker’s did in Sex And The City but because it can be a little (read: a lot) hard to manage, often times short curly hair can look more like a frizzy mop. Trust me, I’ve been there. It’s not fun.

But short hair is possible to pull off with curls. We’ve rounded up some killer short curly hair #inspo and some styling tips so you can finally have that bouncy SJP mane you’ve always wanted…

Textured lob

Remember that when you cut curly hair, your locks will likely become springier! So if you don’t want to go too short, opt for a lob like Meg Ryan’s. Take your texture up a notch with a sea salt texturising spray. Spritz it into dry hair (everywhere but the roots). beautyheaven loves TIGI BedHead Beach Me Wave Defining Gel Mist and TONI&GUY Sea Salt Texturising Spray.

Curly fringe

The curly fringe is back! Zoë Forster Blake is just one of the women rocking the textured fringe. Want to try the look for yourself? For curly hair, opt for a longer, 70s style fringe – they are easier to tame. And make sure your hairstylist cuts the fringe while your hair is dry!

Half-up, half-down

Comedian Ilana Glazer knows what’s up when it comes to taming wild curly hair. The old half-up, half-down hairstyle is a surefire way to keep your curls under control – no matter your length! Just watch out for the frizz you might expose once you put half of your hair up! Keep a conditioning cream handy to fix up frizz instantly. beautyheaven loves John Frieda Frizz Ease® Secret Weapon® Finishing Crème or JUSTICE Professional Smooth and Groom Travel.

Ramp up the ringlets

As a naturally curly-haired girl, I am often faced with the dilemma of either straightening my curls or leaving them as is. BUT then there are those unpredictable days where you wake up with a wild and haphazard mane and neither option seems possible anymore. My quick fix? Curling. Trust me, it’s your best shortcut to looking put-together. You don’t have to curl all your hair either. Curl enough that it disguises the messy patches, add some texturising spray and all of a sudden you have a messy-chic mane of curls.

Voluminous pixie cut

Don’t be afraid to go short-short with a voluminous pixie cut. You can even give it an extra edge by adding an undercut. If you’ve got a curly pixie cut like Halle Berry’s, try using the Moroccanoil Volumizing Mousse, bhave Sleek Pomade or Alfaparf Milano Style Stories Glossy Pomade to give hair volume and shape, as well as a smooth and glossy finish.
