Curious as to how often you should wash your hair?

Everybody’s schedule is different, and some people like to wash their hair daily, while others prefer to leave it a little longer and embrace their oily locks.

However, there’s a lot of confusion surrounding what’s best for your locks. Celebrities have experts at their beck and call, so who better to look to for a little guidance on what’s what when it comes to hair washing routies.

Gwyneth Paltrow

Gwyneth is an advocate of the ‘no poo’ hair washing method, which is not (quite) as odd as it sounds. Basically, it involves not using shampoo, especially those that contain sulphates, or even washing hair with baking soda.

If you want to follow suit, you could try: Moroccanoil Hydrating Shampoo, Vanessa Megan Tangerine Shampoo or muk Argan Oil Repair Shampoo.

Kim Kardashian

With regards to her hair washing routine, Kim revealed, “We start out with a blowout on day one, then we go into a messier vibe the next day, and then we flat iron it and do a really sleek look on day three since that requires a little oil in the hair. Day four could be a slicked-back ponytail, and on the fifth day is when you wash it.”

Cindy Crawford

Cindy confesses she only washes her hair two or three times a week. “I have a blow dryer and I will get blowouts, but it can break easier so I learned how to make it last for three days – I pin it up when I sleep or I will pin it up when I work out.”

Do the same with Scunci Expandable Headband for the gym, and Lady Jayne Headband overnight.

Lorde

“My hair is wild and what you do to maintain it is: don’t wash it that often. Once every two weeks is a good vibe.”

Curly haired beauties take note – once a fortnight is enough to keep curls bouncy.

Alexa Chung

“I wash it every day because I have to – it gets so greasy. But then I just literally tuck it behind my ears and wait for it to dry.”

Here’s how to air-dry your hair to perfection, just like Alexa.

Selena Gomez

Selena forgoes conditioner, opting only for shampoo. “I don’t do conditioner. I feel like I do it [wash her hair] maybe every three days.”

If you want to simplify you hair washing routine, but can’t quite give up conditioner, instead opt for co-washing.

We like: LUSH Avocado Co-Wash and Aveda Be Curly Co-Wash.

Miranda Kerr

“I wash it every second day unless I’m working back to back days, then I like to keep it fresh. There’s nothing better for me after I’ve freshly washed my hair and I’ll let it dry on its own … If my hair is not clean I don’t feel my best.”

Adele

“I only wash it with water. Last night I washed my hair with shampoo for the first time in two months”, she told Glamour magazine. Low-maintenance beauties, rejoice!

Nicole Richie

“I only wash my hair once a week, don’t judge. I’ll just get into the shower and wet my hair, but I don’t wash it with shampoo. On the weekends, I soak it in raw coconut oil and slick it back for two days. It just looks like product.”

  1. How interesting. I’ve heard dermatologists say you should wash more. Like every day or second day. And I’ve heard ppl say less is better. I think it’s up to you. I like twice to three times a week but I’m lazy .that’s why
