Grooming tips to help him look younger

Admit it ladies, we have it pretty lucky.

While it’s true that our masculine counterparts can sometimes age more gracefully than us, we certainly have the upper hand when it comes to the products (and know-how) on how to look younger.

But on the flip side, our guys are often far more clueless than us! So when his hair starts thinning or balding and his chiseled jawline starts to disappear, he needs a woman to show him the way.

With the help of Men’s Biz men’s grooming expert Glenn Storey, you can help your guy shave years off his appearance thanks to these grooming tips. If he’s got any of the issues below, you’ll know what to do:

IF HIS HAIR IS GREY OR GREYING…

One of the biggest telltale signs of ageing for a man is his hair. “Grey, thinning hair is an obvious sign of ageing,” says Glenn, and with more than 87 per cent of Australian men experiencing some degree of greying*, they need a way to take control of the issue so they can look and feel their best. Help him incorporate a solution that’s easy enough to slot into his routine (because we all know how terrible they are at remembering appointments, right?). Restoria Express For Men won’t fade or wash out and comes with a specially designed applicator brush that allows for quick, easy and controlled application – perfect for targeting those pesky greys in difficult areas like his sideburns. One thing to remember – approach colouring with caution. “A man colouring his hair should aim to achieve only subtle changes,” says Glenn. “Colouring hair too dark will only wash out his skin tone, and make him look older.”

IF HE’S LOSING HIS HAIR (THINNING, BALDING)…

“Long, thinning hair is a bad look”, says Glenn. And quite frankly, we couldn’t agree more. If your guy is experiencing thinning hair or bald spots, Glenn says the best way for him to look more youthful is to keep his hair short. “Often the look of thinning hair can be improved if it’s cut shorter around the back and sides,” says Glenn, who explains that this can help give the illusion of thicker-looking hair on top. If he’s got some balding, a clippered style is the way to go.

IF HE’S SPORTING SOME SERIOUSLY UNWANTED FACIAL HAIR…

When nasal and ear hairs are a problem for your guy, don’t just sit back and watch them grow. Men look younger (for the most part) when their appearance is clean and well-groomed. Unruly, unsightly rogue facial hair is not conducive to a youthful appearance. His solution? Grooming tools. “Taking the time to manage unwanted hairs will make sure he maintains a younger look,” says Glenn. And since it shouldn’t take him longer than five minutes to manage per week, he’s got no excuse.

IF HIS JAWLINE ISN’T SO CHISELED ANYMORE…

Sadly, gravity (commonly known as middle age) is not a man’s best friend. If that chiseled jawline he had when you first met is now starting to disappear, he might want to think about growing a beard. But Glenn warns this only works if he is willing to maintain the upkeep. “Keep it clean. When he looks in the mirror, he should aim to shave the neckline to a point where it is no longer visible,” says Glenn, who also points out that the beard lines should be kept sharp around the cheekbone and stray hairs trimmed regularly to keep the look uniform.

What does your guy do to maintain a youthful appearance? Are any of the above useful for him?
