I don’t know about you, but I’m constantly on the search for a little hair-spiration. You know, the stuff that makes you want to get up and try something different, which can in turn make you feel a little more confident on the inside, too.
Which is why I was so excited to find a handful of hair looks from Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia that are totally wearable and easy to achieve. Think boho brushed-out curls, and tapping into Katy Perry’s California Girls hair trend – coloured strands.
The Talulah show at MBFWA featured bronzed girls with relaxed curls that gave the hair body and movement, without being too ringlet-like. The hair team was headed up by Joh Bailey from TRESemme, who told beautydirectory that in order to create this look they tonged the mid–lengths of the hair, not the roots and not the ends, and then they just brushed it out.
The result is sort of a non-hairdo designed specifically to look like naturally beautiful hair; the kind of hair we think Giselle just wakes up with each morning.

Over at the Lisa Ho show, the models were channelling Katy Perry in her California Girls video by showcasing sharp shots of bright colour. Kenneth Stoddart for Redken told beautydirectory he wanted the models’ hair to clash with the colours in the clothes, so he took away the thickness of the hair by braiding the underneath sections, and pinning them flat to the head.
“Then I’ve glued in coloured human hair extensions all through the underneath, and then left the top layers of the models’ own hair and ironed that over the top. It’s dipped coloured ends, like the balayage trend but with colour,” Kenneth said.
