Kate Hudson has always had great hair. Whether she’s wearing it long and curly (just like she did in Almost Famous) or chopped into a pixie cut, the 42-year-old can do no wrong.
In fact, we’ve got a whole library of Kate Hudson’s best beauty looks to peruse if you’re also a mega-fan.
But one hairstyle we didn’t see coming from the actress is one we haven’t worn since our youth: braided pigtails.
The mum-of-three proved the plaited style isn’t just for Pippi Longstocking. It can be just as chic as an adult (or at least if you’re Kate Hudson).
She paired the braided plaits with a white wide-brimmed hat while attending a store opening in Beverly Hills. And somehow, against all odds, it just worked.
Now, considering the wet summer that’s been predicted in Australia thanks to La Niña, we’re all for adding another humidity-proof hairstyle to our repertoire. And this one certainly fits the bill.
How to pull off Kate Hudson’s braided pigtails
With Kate leading by example, there are two things we believe are key to pulling off this style as an adult.
- Keep your plaits bountiful loose
If you have thin hair, try adding some extra body with a thickening spray to bulk out your plaits. bh recommends: Aveda Thickening Tonic ($42 for 100ml at aveda.com.au). Once you’ve created your plaits, pull at them slightly to loosen.
2. Use subtle hair ties
If the only ties you have on hand are pink, sparkly, and thick, your pigtails aren’t likely to provide the sophisticated feel you’re going for. Kate’s ties are so thin they’re almost invisible. Bonus point if you can find clear ones like the TONI&GUY Snagless Elastics ($7 at Woolworths).
