How-to: get camera-ready hair

Do you have a mini freak-out each and every time you see a photo of yourself? You’re not alone. And often it has nothing to do with your outfit, your make-up or even your skin – it’s got everything to do with your hair.

But how do you put an end to unphotogenic strands and snag yourself some incredible photo-ready hair? You follow these four top tips; each of which will help ensure your locks look outstanding in every single snap from here on out…

PHOTO-READY HAIR TIP #1: enhance your complexion with hair dye
A new hair colour will lift your complexion and allow your eyes to pop, but before you get dyeing, make sure it’s the right hue for your skin tone. Go too light and you could look washed-out; go too dark and the result may be a little harsh. Look at past photographs for a general guide of what works well and what doesn’t. Or ask your hairdresser for their recommendations and you’ll soon be on your way to that perfect photographic finish.

PHOTO-READY HAIR TIP #2: choose a hairstyle that flatters you
Extreme hairstyles should always be avoided, and flattering styles chosen instead. If you’ve got a large forehead, opt for a sweeping fringe in place of centre-parted poker-straight strands. Want to hide a prominent brow furrow? Try a blunt fringe instead of a sleek top knot. By selecting a hairstyle and cut that suits you, you’ll enhance the features you love and hide the ones you don’t, which will ultimately help you feel confident in front of the camera.

PHOTO-READY HAIR TIP #3: keep frizz to a minimum
Fuzzy strands and fly-aways always show their unsightly faces in photos. However, smart product use and styling techniques can put a stop to this. Use a frizz-fighting shampoo and conditioning duo like L’Oreal Paris Hair Expertise EverSleek Intense Smoothing Shampoo and Conditioner to begin smoothing your strands from the get-go. Follow up with a gloss enhancing, smoothing serum before styling. Then, blow-dry your locks with the nozzle facing downwards, and blast your hair with a final shot of cool air to close the cuticle, before taming any leftover fuzz with hairspray. (We love Fudge Skyscraper for its delicious coconut scent.)

PHOTO-READY HAIR TIP #4: boost body and promote shine
A voluminous, shiny mane will pop in a picture. A flat, lack-lustre one will not. Use targeted styling products to boost volume during the styling stages (mousse, dry shampoo and a texturising powder will treat you well here), and spritz your strands in with a shimmer mist like muk Spa Argan Oil Repair Shine Spray once you’re finished with the heat stylers to coat your strands in a beautiful, shiny sheen.

Is your hair camera-ready at all times? Or do you find your hair looking dull, flat or unruly in photos? What are you tips for getting photo-ready hair?
