How to: floaty, feminine waves

Pretty, romantic and girly: all big things for spring if the international catwalks are anything to go by. And back in Oz land, it was love at first sight when fashion’s finest, Leona Edminston, unveiled floaty, feminine waves at her spring/summer ‘09/10 collection.

Beautyheaven was on hand to catch up with lead stylist Shane Henning – from Noddy’s On King – to ask how to recreate the soft, romantic waves at home.

Henning revealed that “soft romantic, floaty and feminine” were the key inspirations for this look: “We wanted a look that was relaxed, unstructured and natural, allowing movement and texture in the hair. We also wanted it to look as if the girls had just woken up and done their hair themselves.”

So what did this mean style-wise? “A little bit of teasing on the crown to give that slightly styled look and then loosely pinned back on the sides and fastened at the back, keeping the hair loose.”

Henning’s at-home advice:

1. First apply Goldwell Curl Kick Transparent Gel, or if you have fine hair, Goldwell Volume Power Whip (which gives amazing volume and texture)

2. Then diffuse dry the product into the hair, this helps to enhance natural movement

3. Next, tease hair slightly at the crown. This adds height and creates a sexy, yet girly look

4. For that little added movement, curl some pieces very loosely using straightening irons to give a slight kink to the hair

5. Finally, pin back the front side panels of the hair loosely and fasten at the nape of the neck
