Ways to temporarily transform your hairstyle

With one month of 2016 officially down, we’re guessing you’ve already been inundated with countless new hair inspiration. Hey, that’s what the new year is all about, right?

But while you might be ready to jump on the ‘new year, new look’ bandwagon, you might also be pretty attached to the hair on your head – especially if you’ve just spent the better part of last year growing it out.

Well, you’ll be pleased to know you don’t have to make a major cut – or any, for that matter – to update your style. Ahead, we turn to the celebs who have been doing just that. From faux-style tricks to one-night only style jobs, here’s three ways to make a totally non-committal hair transformation.

DON A WIG

Gigi Hadid

Gigi fooled the world into thinking she got a major chop at the 2015 AMAs until the truth came out that half of her head was a wig. This dramatic change not only made us fall in love with bobs all over again, but came in at number three in our list of the best celebrity hair moments of 2015.

DON A WIG

Kylie Jenner

Whether you’re a fan of the Kardashian-Jenner clan or not, you gotta hand it to the youngest – Kylie – for duping us time and time again with her endless array of haircuts and colour changes. But it’s all just a trick – for no one could really change their hair that often without the help of a few stand-in wigs.

GET A WINGE (AKA A FAKE FRINGE)

Kendall Jenner

Though this particular look might have divided the bh team, it had the whole internet wondering, “did she, or didn’t she?” (She didn’t). Alas, it seems the Jenner sisters may have been in cahoots with all this hair trickery. The bonus though? At least you don’t have to go through these six emotional stages of growing a real one out.

WANT TO TRY IT?

Think you gotta be a celebrity to try out a wig? Think again. At last week’s A/W16 Witchery Fashion Show, Alan White for De Lorenzo sent models down the runway donning this exact hair trend. Case in point that the winge is going to be b-i-g. Cool, effortless and modern, the eyelash-grazing fringe had both movement and texture – a nod to the rock chick coolness with a current feel.

THE FAUX BOB

Allison Williams

She’s normally sporting long locks, but at last year’s Golden Globes, the Girls star employed a glamorous hair hack to transform her lengthy mane into a seemingly shorter off-the-shoulders style for one night only.

THE FAUX BOB

Amber Heard

This year, Amber followed in Allison’s footsteps and donned a similar style for the 2016 Golden Globe Awards. The slightly asymmetrical style lends itself to Amber’s boho, laid-back approach to beauty.

THE FAUX BOB

Naomi Watts

Our own homegrown beauty Naomi’s faux bob channels ‘old Hollywood’ with a deep side part and finger waves.

THE FAUX BOB

Leighton Meester

This loose, undone bob is one of our faves – the slide flip and curled tendrils around the face make it super sultry, like you’ve just rolled out of bed.

THE FAUX BOB

Selena Gomez

Selena’s look is all the proof you need that a faux bob is classy and elegant. The style not only gives her a feminine maturity, it still keeps her looking fresh and young.

THE FAUX BOB

Marion Cotillard

Leave it to the French stunner to pull off a wavy, even slightly frizzy, asymmetrical faux bob. Create a deep side part and tuck the opposite side behind your ear for a more modern take.
