Blunt bangs have had their day. Yep, we’re calling it. This season, it’s all about the dreamy fringe.
With celebs from our girl-crush Bella Thorne to Suki Waterhouse and Halle Berry showcasing the look, the new style is soft and side-swept, framing the face without overpowering it.
Expert hairstylist Dario Cotroneo says the more flattering fringe is a great look for winter, as it’s easier to care for without humidity. While he thinks the style works best with straight hair – “simply blow-dry and go” – we think it looks great with waves too.
Here are our tips on how to get your own perfect fringe:
1) Go to a professional
While we’re all for DIY beauty, there are times when it pays to see a professional. Repeat after us: “I will not try this at home.”
2) Bring a visual aid
Your hairdresser will need inspiration, so bring along a picture of a celeb whose fringe you like. Your stylist will be able to tell straight away whether it will suit you.
3) Don’t be afraid to ask
When it comes to getting a fabulous fringe, communication is key. Your stylist won’t know what you want unless you tell him/her, so make sure you talk specifics before and during your cut.
4) Regular maintenance
The dreamy fringe skims the eyebrows, which means it’ll grow out quickly. Luckily, many hairdressers will trim your fringe for you at a lower price, so be sure to drop in regularly to keep it in check.
5) Simple styling
While this style of fringe is supposed to be artfully dishevelled, stop it from looking too unruly by using a light hairspray such as Aveda Witch Hazel Light Hold Hairspray. A single spritz is all you’ll need!
