Post-summer hair repair

Have you had fun this summer? Did you soak up the sun all day and then head out at night? Did you let your locks flow freely in the salty summer air and then straighten, curl and style them for the evening?
Me too!
But did you also remember to use heat protectants, nourishing hair oils and hair masks? If yes, well done! If not, well, you better keep reading because you’d have a serious summer hair SOS situation on your hands (don’t worry, so do I!). But not to worry, you can get your hair back to its pre-summer glory. All you have to do is follow these six easy steps…
SUMMER HAIR REPAIR TIP #1: Get wet
Summer may be over, but you’re probably still enjoying the odd dip in the sea or swimming pool. Sadly though, our tresses don’t share the same enthusiasm for a swim – in fact, it can cause your strands real damage. To give your hair a fighting chance, always rinse it with fresh water before swimming. This might seem strange, but hair absorbs the first thing it comes in contact with (and fresh water’s way better than chlorinated or salty water). If you want to up the ante, use an oil spray such as L’Oreal Elvive Extraordinary Oil before diving in to protect your hair from dehydration.
SUMMER HAIR REPAIR TIP #2 Revitalise and reconstruct
Constant heat styling, exposure to the sun and chemicals from chlorinated swimming pools can dry out hair and make it prone to breakage. To counter this, consider using a treatment such as Wella System Professional Luxeoil Keratin Restore Mask, which will help to strengthen and revitalise your hair fibres, soften your strands and boost hydration.

SUMMER HAIR REPAIR TIP #3 Fight the frizz
Do you swear your strands are even frizzier now than they were at the start of summer? With all that moisture in the air, hair is bound to turn into a frizzball. Even if you don’t normally fall victim to frizz, any type of damage (from sun, colouring or heat styling) roughens the hair cuticles and causes them to swell. Combat unruly hair with a smoothing serum such as Herbal Essences None Of Your Frizzness Smoothing Serum that will restructure and prevent the absorption of humidity in the air.
SUMMER HAIR REPAIR TIP #4 Colour boost
Summer, we love you – but if you keep making our hair colour fade, we may have to rethink how we feel. If your hair colour is looking a little worse for wear, try reviving it using a colour-boosting shampoo like TONI & GUY Hair Meet Wardrobe Cleanse Shampoo for Brunette Hair (also available for blonde hair) or, if it’s in need of a complete overhaul, go for an at-home kit like the Schwarzkopf Colour Mask that will strengthen the hair using a vitamin oil complex while it colours.

SUMMER HAIR REPAIR TIP #5 Show your ends some love
Typically, the ends of your hair will be the first place to show damage, which shouldn’t be a surprise considering they’ve been with you the longest and often take on the brunt of summer heat styling and product piling. So in order to save yourself a trip to the salon to get rid of split ends, use a treatment like bhave™ fresh ends or De Lorenzo Instant Rejuven8 The Ends to seal your frazzled cuticles.
SUMMER HAIR REPAIR TIP #6 Get your mask on
If your entire mane is a need of a good hydration boost, take some time to slather on a rich and nourishing mask. L’Occitane Aromachology Repairing Mask for Dry & Damaged Hair and Moroccanoil Intense Hydrating Mask are both enriched with hydrating ingredients to deeply restore and strengthen hair. Repeat once a week until your hair is as good as new.

I really need to invest in a good hair mask and a product with UV protection. I'll have to do some investigating to help tame my mop.

I've just stoked up on hair care products and treatments. I've always been pretty good with caring for my hair, but with my wedding coming up at the end of this year, I'm wanting to take things up a notch so have invested in some good strengthening and repairing treatments, as well as top line shampoo and conditioners.
