A study has found McDonald’s fries may help with hair growth

We never thought the McDonald’s menu would be something to peruse for help with hair loss, but low and behold, a new study is suggesting that McDonald’s french fries may help your hair grow.

A Japanese study, conducted by researchers at Yokohama National University, has found that an ingredient in the McDonald’s french fries recipe could help with hair loss. The ingredient is dimethylpolysiloxane, an anti-foaming agent that prevents splattering when added to the oil fries are cooked in. The study, which was published in Biomaterials, found dimethylpolysiloxane “promising” for hair regrowth therapies after scientists produced around 5000 hair follicle germs. When these hair follicles were transported onto bald mice, new hair began to grow.

But before you start sprinting down to the local Macca’s, more research needs to be done. The study was only conducted on animals which means the results might not translate to humans. However, researchers are hopeful.

“This simple method is very robust and promising,” said Junji Fukuda, one of the authors of the study. “We hope that this technique will improve human hair regenerative therapy to treat hair loss such as androgenic alopecia.”
