Affordable at-home treatments to deal with damaged hair
Damaged hair can be such a pain, but we’ve got great news – repairing it doesn’t have to be expensive. As we’ll show you in the video above, it’s actually really easy to do a hair treatment for damaged hair at home. We’ve also uncovered a simple styling trick that will help to soothe your locks by cutting back on heat styling – minus the bed hair!

Don’t head to the nearest salon or shell out big bucks to repair your hair – follow our easy instructions for an effective hair damage treatment at home! So if you’re sick of dealing with stressed-out strands, here are three easy ways to get your hair back to its healthy, shiny best – without breaking the bank.
Healthy hair hack #1: Create a DIY hair treatment for damaged hair
You might be surprised to know that you can give dry or damaged hair a boost with pantry staples, such as a banana. Bananas are a great source of Vitamin E and also contain natural oils to help soften and repair your hair and improve its elasticity, which can help your hair to be less susceptible to breakage.
Simply mash 1 ripe banana and work it into your damp hair, as we’ve demonstrated in the video above. Allow it to sit in your hair for an hour, then rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water. Done!
Healthy hair hack #2: Pick up an affordable at-home hair mask from the supermarket
Another affordable at-home option is to purchase a supermarket deep treatment that will give your hair the hydration it needs. We love the Palmers Coconut Oil Deep Conditioning Protein Pack which, at only $3.99, is super-affordable and provides an extra-nourishing fix for dry, dehydrated or unruly hair.
The formula contains coconut and monoi oil to restore the hair’s moisture, as well as keratin and silk proteins to strengthen, repair and add shine. It’s also made with ethically and sustainably-sourced natural ingredients and is completely free from parabens, phthalates, sulfates, mineral oil, gluten and dyes. Plus, it smells really, really good so it’s a no-brainer, really.
Healthy hair hack #3: Ditch the hot tools and style your hair naturally
Allowing your hair to dry naturally is another easy way to keep damaged hair at bay. You can even style it without using styling tools, which will give your hair a break from all that harsh heat.
For cute, easy waves separate your wet hair into two sections, before twisting each section into a tight, side bun. Leave them in place throughout the day or while you sleep, and when you unravel the buns you’ll have fresh, tousled waves! You’re welcome.

I've been really enjoying the Fanola Nutri Care restructuring mask. I've been using it in place of my normal conditioner. I have bleached hair, it brings it back to life every time I use it.
As for natural hair treatments - I draw the line at coconut oil. No banana for me lol

OMG I did the mushed banana treatment in my hair last night and I'm going to say it again, OMG. I washed my hair, dried a little, mushed banana in and waited an hour. In this time, banana dribbled down my face and neck, even with cling wrapped and shower capped so I went through 2 towels to soak it up. Then went into a lukewarm shower to rinse and basically banana set itself into my hair. I used a comb, fingers, whatever until I had to wash it another 2 times and then put conditioner through. The shower recess was covered in banana bits - so it took another 1/2hr to clean the mess up. Never ever will I attempt to treat my hair this way again as there was no difference to my hair as if I'd just shampoo'd & conditioned like usual. p.s. I'm a hair & makeup artist of 18 years so this sounded sinch... my advice Don't Do It!!

My hair is at its best yet and that's from ditching the heat styling tools. Best thing you can do! Plus natural hair styles are back

One of the reasons I'll miss summer is not being able to let my hair air-dry, sigh... Twisty buns are amazing, I love tying them up high, too. Another DIY I love is aloe vera, which is always handy to have in your backyard like my parents do. Note to self: Plant one this autumn.

My hair is looking & feeling in great shape, and part of that reason is due to the fabulous Eleven 3 Minute Hair Mask. I highly recommend it.

Some really great tips... I also love putting oil in my hair and leaving it in, be it Olive or Coconut Oil...

I sometimes use coconut oil as a hair treatment. Otherwise I have a Delorenzo treatment which I use.

Food is for my mouth, not for my hair. I use an oil or a leave in conditioning spray.

I have indeed tried the banana but one isn't enough for the length of my hair. I need at least two, if not three bananas to make this work. I rather eat or bake with them, rather than use that many for my hair.
I also every now and then use coconut oil. I smother my hair, mainly my ends, with the oil and leave it all night or at least a few hours. Then I wash. No extra conditioner needed.
I love letting my hair air dry but my hair is so thick it will never dry overnight if tied up in a bun or braids. It would still be very moist in the morning. I have tried, several times.
