The golden rules of glossy hair

What’s the secret to soft, flowing locks that are made for sunny weather? Gloss - and lots of it! After the dulling winter winds, now is the time to treat your hair with a little TLC to put back in the nourishment your dry and damaged strands so desperately crave. Here are two ways to get your glossiest mane yet!

REPAIR WITH CARE
When the weather changes, so does our hair and its needs. And now that we're well into the warmer months, our hair is going to see a lot of UV exposure, chlorine and salt water: all the things that contribute to dehydrated, dull and damaged hair. Nothing feels fresher than nourished lengths, so after a day in the sun don’t neglect your strands. Restore your hair and lock in hydration with regular hair masks. These little guys will work to penetrate the shaft and repair from the inside, and are the key to happy, healthy locks.

DON'T BE AFRAID TO GET A LIL' GREASY
They say it takes 21 days to form a habit, so if you haven't already starting prepping your locks for summer, now is the time to start! Just like our skin, our hair looks better when it’s shiny, and while these hotter days are great for air-drying our locks and creating naturally beachy waves, all that time outdoors leaves the ends of our hair especially damaged. To protect your locks for more hotter days ahead, take five to add a third step to your haircare regime and treat your tresses to a little oil. Far from making your locks look greasy, it will put back in the moisture to your mid-lengths and ends for soft, glossy strands. Just remember not to overdo it on the portions.

GET HEATED
Ever notice how straight hair always looks extra glossy? No, it’s not an illusion. Straighteners eliminate ruffled strands, and smooth out your hair to lie flat, which create more surface area for light to reflect from. Just be sure to not fry your locks: only use your tool on dry hair, using a continuous gliding motion and opt for a straightener with ceramic plates to protect against excess heat. Oh, and always use a heat protectant.

I am yet to find a treatment or product that makes my hair look shiny. I envy those who do have shiny sleek hair.

Having thin hair I do have to be careful of oils, just a little bit too much and my hair goes lank

I always use a serum when I wash and style my hair. I have often walked past the Schwarzkopf BB cream and contemplated getting it.

I tried Pantene BB cream but my dry hair didn't like it. I might give Schwarzkopf BB cream a try and see if that works for my hair. L'OCCITANE repairing mask looks good.

I did notice that after using heat styler/straightener (for 'special' occasions only) makes my hair even looking shinier. I use heat protect thingy or hair serum lately as well, just not to fry the ends

I always use a heat protectant and turn the heat down so the straightener is not on the highest setting. Nice and glossy without burnt ends.

A great heat protectent spray is a great investment, I rarely heat style my hair anymore but when I do I make sure I use a spray, There is nothing worse when hair looks dry and burnt.

I use coconut oil in my hair (at least once a week) as a deep conditioning treatment and it did surprise me, I expected oil to make my hair greasier and heavy but it looks shiny, healthy (haven't had a cut since august 2016) and clean.
As a teenager I had such oily hair so using oil treatments was out of the question, but over the last few years my hair has gone back to normal.

To get healthy and shiny hair I think you need to regularly trim your ends and finish your showers with a really cold rinse to lock in the shine.

I have made an effort over the years to wash my hair when I have enough time for it to partially dry before I put heat on it.
