To us mere mortals, the life of an actor usually appears all sorts of glamourous. But in reality, all those hair styling sessions on set and drastic colour changes for different roles take a huge toll on the locks of our TV favourites.
Ashley Benson, who played Hanna Marin on Pretty Little Liars for seven seasons, recently revealed the price her hair paid for the role. "I bleached my hair so much during season three and it fell right off and you couldn't even tell!” she told ELLE. “I got a call from Warner Bros. like, 'You need to do something with your hair,'" and I’m like well, duh, I’m bald! Bleaching my hair was my biggest regret."
Riverdale’s Lili Reinhart has had a similar experience, telling PopSugar that those Betty Cooper ponytails are more taxing than they appear. “We just started adding extensions to my ponytail, because my hair has gotten so damaged and fried, quite frankly, from being heat styled every day,” she says. “I definitely have invested in a lot of hair masks and treatments in order to save my hair. I feel like at the end of the show, I'll have to shave my head."
After using wigs for previous seasons of Game of Thrones, Emilia Clarke decided to finally go all in and bleached her hair ‘Mother of Dragons blonde’. But once the deed was done, Emilia was forced to chop off all her hair into a chin-length bob.
Now let’s all take a moment of silence for the damaged hair that we’ve lost to the TV industry and stock up on restoring hair masks. bh loves: Dove Intensive Repair Mask, Essano Argan Oil Recovery Hair Mask, Schwarzkopf Extra Care Hair Care Supreme Length Intensive Mask.

A little bit of spike in the hair of having bleach that could really make the dashy look as I am concerned ...

I had a friend who had gotten balayage done and it looked so horrible, it was like one straight line across her hair, they ended up just dying her hair back to the original colour

I tried to light a gas oven and boom, badly singed and stinky hair. Job interview the next day, rang and begged for a hairdresser to fix my hair, she gasped when she saw me. But it all could have been much worse....

I have had way too many hair horror stories to count! The price you pay for wanting to change your hair colour every 5 seconds, argh! The most cringe worthy was when I had my (naturally blonde) hair dyed black with teal blue streaks, and then cut my own fringe wayyyy too short. Teenagers!

I have heard of Olaplex, is it like a weekly conditioning treatment for coloured hair?

It isn’t a treatment in the sense but it feels like one. There are 5 different kinds now. The first 1 &2 are used by your hairdresser in and after your hair is bleached. 3 is a take home version you can use weekly and 4 and 5 are shampoo and conditioner. It repairs the bonds in your hair from bleach, colour and heat damage. They say it’s not a treatment but your hair feels amazing after it and it saves my strands.

It’s been about 18 years since a hairdresser ‘lightened’ my hair. It was the colour of wet hay, horrible. Paid a fortune at another salon to return back to my natural dark brown.

I've never had a bleached hair disaster. I leave all my colour changes to my trusted hairdresser. Mind you, a couple of times she's become a bit scissor happy and cut too much off for my liking.

I don't regret doing balayage on my dark hair, but I do regret the fact that the bleach made my ends dry & a bit frizzy, despite using good hair care products. I'll never do it again.
My other hair disasters were me trying to cut my fringe (back when I had one)...should've known that that would end in disaster as I can't cut straight lol....and not looking after my hair when I dyed it for the first time in my teens. After 2 different dye jobs my hair felt like straw & I lopped half of it off.
