The Time-Saving Hair Tool Zoë Foster Blake Is Obsessed With

Zoë Foster Blake — genius writer, founder of Go-To Skincare and all-around hilarious person — knows what’s up when it comes to the beauty. Having written beauty columns for years, as well as starting not one but two beauty websites, a product recommendation from her is generally pure gold.  And this time, the topic was hair.

Zoë took to her Instagram Stories post-salon to share her new hair goals; a clean and chic ’90s bob. Not an easy feat for someone with notoriously curly, bouncy and prone-to-frizz hair. Who also happens to hate ‘stylers’ (her words, not ours).

Upon telling her hairdresser of her ambition, he (Hermiz Daniel) introduced her to a ‘hot brush’. More specifically, the ghd Glide ($215, The Shaver Shop). The tech-savvy tool is shaped exactly like a regular paddle brush, only the ‘bristles’ are actually made from ceramic which heat up to 185 degrees.  Used on dry hair, it tames, smooths and styles with each stroke. Pretty fricken cool huh?

Needless to say, as a busy mum-of-two, Zoë promptly nabbed herself a Glide for home. Having now used it a few times, she wrote, “If you are in a straight hair phase, or just want to look groomed, neat and smooth, it is a YES.”

It’s important to note, however, that even though it looks quite similar to a regular brush, it is HOT, so your technique may need to adjust (unless you like a burnt scalp, then go nuts). Zoë recommends smoothing from the underside, brushing with the bristles facing outwards, away from the face.

This doesn’t mean brushing topside is a strict no-no, just be careful to keep it concentrated on the lower half of your hair, and at a safe distance from your cheeks. Or, try bh member bebeautiful34’s technique: ” I just run it through my hair whilst holding onto the ends, to keep the strand taut.”

Either way, as soon you nail that flick of the wrist, this tool truly is a gamechanger.

Have you tried a hot brush?
