Let’s not beat around the bush; $700 is a helluva lot of money.
But that my friends is the hefty price of the new Dyson Corrale. The first cordless straightener to hit the global market.
If I’m being honest, there’s a lot of ways I could spend $700 in my head before considering using it on a hair tool. But, a Dyson vacuum can be upwards of that and people definitely find those suckers worth it.

Perhaps it’s $100 for each year they spent making it?
I did speak to someone from Dyson HQ, who had worked on the project from the very beginning. They were very excited about the patented flexi-plates it has; gathering hair so it doesn’t escape and therefore straightening each section evenly.
But when I was lucky enough to be sent one to trial, all I really cared about was the performance and whether it warrants the RRP. So, here’s my honest review.
SAM’S DYSON CORRALE REVIEW
It has to be said, this straightener is swish. It comes with a glorious display stand, which I truly appreciate because for the money, it should be shown off like a damn piece of art.
The cord to charge it is very long, and can be plugged in to the stand, or to the base of straightener itself (which you can use also use with the cord if you wish). Once the device has a full battery, it turns off automatically and you’re ready to roll.
It’s also worth noting the buttons on this thing are of the highest quality. You could punch them relentlessly and they’d still hold up.
With three heat settings to choose from (165°, 185°and 210°), I went for the middle rung. My hair is fine, but I’ve got lots of it and little patience, so it seemed a good place to start.
It heats up quickly and by the time I separated my sections and brushed through my hair a bit, it was ready.
My hair naturally air-dried
I decided to go for the classic straightening function first. The plates glided through well, didn’t catch on any hair and made a kind of clicking noise whenever I released (I think it’s the sound of those flexible plates moving).
I thought the frizz control was really great, the whole job was quite speedy and it didn’t make any steam or hair-frying red flags. Just an all-round good straighten, that was pretty impressive for the 185 degrees temperature setting. Normally, I’d have to go closer to 200 for these results.
Also, it’s really worth noting that because it’s cordless and probably has a whole robot sitting inside its rear, the Corrale is heavier than your average straightener. Not by loads, but noticeably so.

Next, I tried some curls. This is where the cordless feature really becomes a perk. It makes any twirling and twisting so much easier. You could do it in a crowded room (well, not currently) and not worry about accidentally whipping anyone.
Accidental burns of the neck are also no longer a concern here. The plates are very protected with no crazy heat coming from the sides, so those faux hickey days are over.
The curls were nice, held well and I didn’t have to adjust the temperature setting to do so.

THE FINAL VERDICT
I’ve been using the same ghd straightener for over 10+ years, which now has cracked plates that catch on every second hair strand. So I’d definitely be lying if I said switching to the Dyson Corrale hasn’t been a dream.
It works really well, leaves my hair looking lovely and I’ve used it four more times since (about 10 minutes a session) without having to recharge. An extremely handy feature for future weekends away.
But whether or not it’s worth it is a question I actually don’t think I, or actually anyone, can answer yet.
Is it worth $700 for the five times I’ve used it? No.
But will it be worth $700 if I’ve still got it in 12 or so years, my hair is in the best health it’s ever been and it’s working perfectly fine? I’d say yes.
From my first impressions, it works and it works well. It’s sturdy and it’s sleek.
As for the long-term benefits that its lower heat capabilities promise, whether the tech holds up and cost per use… only time will tell.
The Dyson Corrale is available now at dyson.com.au ($699).
What do you think of the Dyson Corrale? What’s the most you’ve ever spent on a beauty product and was it worth it?
No way that is so much money!
I feel like curling my hair today but it’s pretty rainy outside so I think not a good idea as moisture always makes my hair not have curl if I try to put some in my straight hair.
Dyson hair tools are definitely outside of my hair care budget.
My sister and I where talking about this product only a few days ago. While out of my price range it’s within my sisters and will be happy to pass on this review to her
Your hair looks gorgeous. I don’t straighten my hair, but Dyson is a good brand so no surprises it’s good. It’s just one of those investment purchases!
Lucky lucky Sam 🙂
Would so love to get my hands on this.
Woah that’s pricey ! Looks very nice , hair looks good too. Curls are beautiful.
But way out of my budget !
Does it ever go on sale?
I agree the product looks amazing but so expensive
I dont think I will even get my hands on this even though I really want to.
I don’t heat style my hair very often, so I wouldn’t spend $700 on a straightener. The most I’ve ever spent on beauty was getting laser hair removal (Brazilian). I thought it was worth it, but then I won a home IPL device (from Bh).
As much as I would love to try this, it’s way over my allowance…. My last GHD ( still using it 11 years in) was a gift from my very generous boyfriend at the time. I have to admit, if my husband surprised me with this beauty, would not be impressed. Sorry GHD I am sure it’s great? But perhaps a little on the more ‘wealthier’ folk side.
Hey if they’d like to send me one to’trial’, I certia would not say no.
OMG I can’t justify that price…. The only way I’m using a Dyson hair straightener is if I win one… Fingers crossed.
Thanks Sam, for the honest review!
$700 – you really do need to get 12 years to worth the price.
I am still using the same GHD I bought 10 years ago – and still going strong. It was $200
And heavy straightener is a no for me. I style others’ hair and my hands get tired after holding and twisting a GHD for a few hours. Let alone a heavier tool.
Thanks for the thorough review!
Dear Lord, for $700 i would want this Dyson item to straighten / curl / cut my hair, permanently remove any body hair AND do the vacuuming like my Dyson vac (but be more on par with the Dyson V12 series).I love a splurge (and do splurge on beauty products / devices on occasion),but cannot justify this…..i could turn that amount of coin into a huge chunk off the clawfoot bath i want.
who in the world would pay $700 for a hair straightener it can’t really be that amazing, why would they need to charge $700 for such a simple thing !
Just have my regular straightener in one hand, Corrale in the other. So far: Corrale side is silkier and moves better. Ends are soft. Other side: Ends dry (as they are damaged really all over) and stiffer, less movement. Corrale side: hair did not feel as hot when touching after passes, other one did. Perhaps less damage in the longer term too? Do not know…just playing with it. Oh, I have super long hair, so cordless convenience is amazing. Plus can style finally my hair in front of mirror (as my power outlet is not near it and in bathroom don’t have cabinets/shelves to rest gadgets or anything). And hair stays within plates, does not spray out. I rarely heat style my hair because of damage, now …hehe….let’s say, hello great hair day, bye pufff and fluff. YA, it is sooo exxy! 2 hair salon salon visits in Sydney…(for my hair length and styling/highlight, not even)
Wow i would die for a cordless hair tool, imagine carrying it wherever you can?but thats a lot of money 🙁
I keep seeing this everywhere. Want one now.
It looks amazing but the price is a little expensive for me.
I need this
It’s $700 as there is someone out there that is willing to pay that much
I have the Dyson Animal Vac which I bought about 10 years ago and I have not looked back. It was a couple of hundred dollars off and worth every dollar. I also have the Dyson bladeless fan (also bought on sale), though it is great technology I am not that much of a fan of it and I bought another fan for $5 (discounted from $30) which I am much happier with.
Same here, I love my Dyson vacuum cleaner but that is used regularly, I hardly ever straighten my hair.
Products from the Dyson brand? Yes. This particular product? It may be a while until it goes on sale.
$700 way too much for me.
yes this straightener is worth it. I love the convenience of it being cordless. Carry it in my handbag to fix my hair before attending events.
My hair is much healthier now.
I think it will, their vacuums do.
Yep a tired arm wouldn’t be fun!
I have a Dyson vacuum and they are great! But a vacuum is a everyday item that every household needs, a hair straightener that’s $700 is a luxury.
Yes, way too exy!
Doesn’t it feel heavy in your bag?
Considering that I hardly hear style my hair, I will pass.
My go to mum’s hairstyle is a high pony or a high bun.
$700 is way too much. It is probably great technology but it is a risk and not in my budget.
Plus I don’t look good with straightened hair:) It looks wrong and lifeless on me.
you must be really strong!
I have a typo there – heat not hear.
No , not really.
Maybe.. well I am used to carrying a ton of stuff in my handbag.
It sounds like you will always have everything with you when you need.
Oh yes. I like to be organised and prepared.
I really don’t think I could justify it!
Hmm can I justify spending this much on a cordless hair tool???
