How to get Kim Kardashian’s pink hair at home

In case you missed it, Kim Kardashian has dyed her hair pink. Kim decided to go for the hue after getting bored of her platinum blonde hair. But, it was no easy decision. Pink hair isn’t a simple thing to achieve or maintain.

Kim’s hairstylist Chris Appleton and colourist George Papanikolas are the men behind her new hair. The two have now revealed to InStyle how you can DIY the tricky look.
Base
"Semi-permanent dyes will work on a blonde base but depending on the lightness of your blonde, it will have a different shade result," Chris tells InStyle. "If you're dark, you need to bleach your hair beforehand."
“I would never recommend DIYing the pre-lightening as it is very complicated, and the chance for damage/breakage is high—even if you see a professional," George says.

Dyeing
Chris suggests using the Manic Panic High-Voltage Classic Cream Formula Hair Colour (available in a variety of pinks). If you only want to have pink hair for a short stint, Chris suggests diluting the pink dye with conditioner to get a more pastel-like shade that will wash out within a few weeks.
Another option they suggest is the Matrix Colour Graphics semi-permanent tubes (applied directly to the hair). George says that with these, you can dilute the pink pigment with a clear shade to get a more pastel tone. “You should apply section by section, using gloves and allow to process for 20 minutes. Since these are direct dyes, they don’t harm the hair so they can be refreshed as often as you like without fear of additional damage,” George says.

Maintenance
Try not to use your hot hair tools. If you do, keep the temp low so it doesn’t strip the colour. Also rinse hair with cool water to keep to preserve the pigment and don’t over-shampoo. "Don’t wash your hair as often, and try using a texture spray the day you would normally wash it to keep it fresh," Chris recommends.
When you do wash it, stick to sulfate-free, colour shampoos like Redken Color Extend Magnetics Sulfate-Free Shampoo and Fudge Colour Lock Shampoo. Chris also suggests using a treatment like Olaplex to keep the hair looking shiny and strong.

Pink hair is hard to maintain. I had my hair lightened at the salon and rose gold toner applied. Maintained pink colour by using britx hair shampoo and conditioner.

I'm older so tend to want a natural look for me. However, I do think young ones look great with coloured pink hair. Not sure it suits Kim Kardashian but heck she can afford a hairdresser to fix anything.

Kim looked better with her dark black hair then this colour. This totally doesn't suit her.

My hair is purple, it fades to a pink colour. But it's usually time to bleach my roots by then.

Black is as bold as I've gone (after a trip to Japan in my 20's) - my boyfriend took one look at me and walked away! He's been my husband for 27 years - hair colour is easily changed - good boyfriends aren't!

I've been bright, magenta pink and am currently soft pure with a fair bit of regrowth which I want to add some more foils to so I can add more purple and blend the colour with the regrowth. If you're looking for fashion colours then try Dare as they are the best I've used because they don't end up staining everything like Manic Panic and Fudge.

I so loooove pink and rose gold hair, if mine would survive the stripping and colouring process I'd do it in a second!

I absolutely love Kim but this is my least favourite hair on her - leave the bright colours to the little sisters!

I occasionally see someone wear a funky colour well, but it's very rare. Personally I prefer to stick with hair colours that would occur in nature, but that's just my own beauty philosophy. It certainly does no harm to experiment with your look.

Looks very nice on her, but I imagine the maintenance for an ordinary mortal would be difficult and expensive.

I've never tried an extreme colour like pink but some of my DIY dye jobs have been unintentionally pretty interesting - like when the picture on the box looks auburn but ends up being fire engine red!

Love the pink hair on her. I am so tempted to try this, wonder how my extensions would go. Might be a bit complicated.

I've used Schwarzkopf LIVE Shocking Pink & it's great stuff! I've also used L'Oréal Colorista, but not in pink. I hate KK but I like those fun hair colours.

I don't think it looks good on her ... Sorry to say. I just look and think .. Oh the damage this will do to the hair for a short time use ! I say if you want pink in your hair ... Get a hair piece. They are so natural you can get really good ones! My sis had to do this when her hair broke off from over bleaching .
