The biggest hair trends for 2019

Always feel like you’re on the back foot when it comes to keeping up with hair trends? Went rose gold months after it was in? Only got a lob cut last week? Don’t worry. We’ve chatted with Vincent Nobile, Co-Owner and Colour Director at Headcase Hair, and John Pulitano, Co-Owner and Creative Director at Headcase Hair (aka some serious hair gurus) about what trends will be the hottest in 2019 so you can stay ahead of the hair curve this year.

Below is everything you need to know about the biggest hair trends for 2019. So pull Pinterest up now and get ready to pin…

BLUNT CUTS ARE BACK

It feels like just yesterday that blunt cuts were being sported left, right and centre, but now the look is back – with a twist. “Blunt haircuts are making a comeback but much shorter than the lob that we saw trending a little while ago,” Pulitano explains.

If you have fine hair this is definitely the look for you, as a short and blunt cut can make your mane appear much thicker than it really is. Look to Lucy Hale and Olivia Wilde for inspiration!

MAKE LIKE JANE BIRKIN

Pulitano is tipping Jane Birkin’s unmistakable straight cut and messy feathered fringe as THE haircut of 2019. For inspiration, look to Suki Waterhouse, Dakota Johnson and modern-day Birkins, French ‘it-girls’, Louise Follain and Jeanne Damas.

Not sure whether a fringe will suit you? Don’t stress, there’s a fringe out there to suit your face shape!

CUE THE COOL BLONDE

When it comes to colour, Nobile is “…loving cooler shades of blonde like champagnes and soft platinum. I see a lot of brassy blondes on the streets and I just don’t think they are flattering.” For shade inspiration, check out Sophie Turner and Julianne Hough’s locks.

To keep your cool blonde locks looking, well, cool, make sure you use shampoos, conditioners and masks that are specially formulated for blonde, coloured hair. beautyheaven loves Provoke Touch of Silver Brightening Shampoo and Intensive Conditioner, Alfaparf Milano That’s It Blonde Ambition Shampoo – Cool Blonde, Goldwell Dualsenses Blondes & Highlights 60Sec Treatment and KMS COLORVITALITY Blonde Shampoo and Conditioner.

LIGHTEN UP THE COPPER

“For reds I predict light coppers like Jessica Chastain,” says Nobile, who notes that doing strawberry copper tones is one of his favourite trends right now.

To keep your copper in tip-top shape, beautyheaven loves Pureology Reviving Red Shamp’Oil, De Lorenzo Novafusion Intense.

PLAY WITH PRECISION BALAYAGE

“I’m really liking precision balayage and I think it will be big in 2019. It’s more beautiful, flattering and gives that luxurious hair colour as opposed to over damaging the hair and making it brassy,” Nobile explains. beautyheaven loves looking to Jessica Alba and Gisele Bündchen for balayage inspiration!

What haircuts and colours do you see trending in 2019? Would you try any of these looks?
