3 winter hair colour techniques: Colour smudge
Love your colour, but not those pesky greys? The Schwarzkopf colour smudge technique is great for covering unwanted greys and root touch-ups. Watch Jess show you how to refresh your hair at home, with effective results.
For this look, choose a shade that is close to your natural hair colour. Jess is using Chocolate Mystery from the Schwarzkopf Brilliance range.
- To start, part your hair as normal, and brush through to ensure your hair is knot- and tangle-free.
- With your shoulders covered and protective gloves on, empty the Schwarzkopf Diamond Gloss Serum and Colour Crème into the application bottle and shake well until it forms a smooth cream.
- Working in sections, squeeze the colour directly onto your roots, then use your fingers to smudge the colour through to your mid-lengths, making sure to keep the ends of your hair colour-free.
bh tip: Pay attention to where you stop the colour on each side of your head, as you want to keep this symmetrical. - Leave this to process for up to 30 minutes, checking regularly to ensure you are happy with the colour depth.
- To finish, add some water to emulsify the hair colour, then rinse until the water runs clear and condition with the Schwarzkopf Brilliance Colour-Shine Conditioner.

I like the the idea of this. I am definately going to give this a try. Hopefully I will not end up with two tone hair!

Using the nozzle to separate your hair makes the task so much easier

This is exactly the info I needed. I have just started sprouting grey hairs along my part. Thank you.

I liked this result. Ive done similar with measuring out only half bottle of product - seemed a waste when I wasn't doing whole head. Now that they have the mousse for touch ups in 3 mins (saw it in Beautorium) $9 coles last week. Cant wait to use it.

After doing the roots, you can add shampoo to the hair color to lessen it's strength, and then put that on the remainder your hair so the colors match a bit better...

I have to be honest and say I'm glad I don't dye my hair yet. It seems such a long thing to do and a commitment. When visiting Melbourne around a year ago I was given some blonde streaks and highlights in my hair but that's all I've done - I'm glad there was no upkeep with it though!

So true. That is why I also only do my own 'sun-kissed' highlights here and there...looks more natural then when done in the salon, and no upkeep

This is how I do my hair colours as it's mainly at my parting and hair line where I need to chase the greys away. It better than over processing parts of your hair that don't need coverage.

This is definitely how you should dye your hair when only your roots need attention. Going over ALL your hair each and every time causes so much damage!

Seriously? I'm sure if you looked under a microscope you could maybe see 1 or 2 grey hairs on her head! Next time show somebody who actually has grey regrowth!

I like this one. I have lighter hairs peeping through, which means I'm going to have to seriously consider dying my hair soon. This may be the way to go for me. Great tutorial BH!
