We’ve seen nets get cast pretty wide in the search for beauty inspiration (sand art hair, anyone?) – but now they’ve been cast into the sea, with betta-fish hair the latest hair trend to catch our eye.
Yep, this little guy (otherwise known as a Chinese fighting fish) is an unlikely hair muse!
Speaking to refinery29.com, Hairstory colourist and Betta-fish hair creator Roxie Darling says she was struck by “the organic flow of colour in their bodies” and “thought there was a way to make that translate into hair, since hair is also a natural, moving fiber.”
It may be a bit out there, but as someone who spent a lot of time at the aquarium as a kid, I can totally see the appeal. After all, the Betta fish’s tail is kind of like a mane.
Apparently, Darling just doesn’t understand “why her hair doesn’t just grow out peach” – which makes me love her even more.
It’s definitely not a low-maintenance look, with the effect achieved by painstakingly “layering different shades in succession, starting with blue at the root”.
The result is a plethora of hues blending in and out of one another in a surprisingly subtle way.
It reminds me a lot of Abbey Lee Kershaw’s recent foray into rainbow hair.
While I won’t be experimenting with either hair look any time soon, it’s always fun to see what the most daring beauties of the world are doing.
Would you get Betta-fish hair? What’s your favourite hair colour or style at the moment?
