Brilliance Intense Permanent Hair Colour Reviews

My past experiences with home hair colouring have been less than stellar. There was the time I tried to go black, only for the dye to refuse to take. Then there was the time I played with my mother's Magic Silver White and ended up with a brilliant purple streak, aged 13. This was looong before the advent of coloured foils...so ahead of my time. Oh, and the time I didn't check my ears or neckline after applying dark brown dye...

Luckily, my trial of Schwarzkopf's Brilliant Intense in colour 68 - Chocolate Rush - was much more successful. It took 45 mins from opening the packet to towelling off my hair, which is about the time I would have been kept waiting at my local salon. Colouring my hair at home also means I don't have to think about what to do with my beautiful 14 month old son - I can colour when he's sleeping.

The preparation of the colourant is fast and straightforward. Squeeze the contents of the tube into the bottle, add the little packet of gloss serum and shakeshakeshake. I found the packaging of the gloss serum unnecessarily fiddly. It looked great, but I lost a good bit of it trying to get it open. Definitely have a pair of sharp scissors handy for that bit!

I applied the dye systematically, starting at my parting and working in rows across my head, then hairline, then the back and finally the ends. It's a messier process than foam, but I managed to avoid getting it anywhere except my hair. One pack was more than enough for my chin-length hair, which is fine but plentiful. I know from previous experience with this product that two packs is the perfect amount for my hair when it is waist-length. I was unable to find anywhere whether to apply to clean or dirty hair, or whether it should be wet or dry. I decided to apply it to my dry second-day hair.

After the stated developing time, my hair rinsed clear within about 5 minutes. The conditioner provided lasted 5 applications, which is a very generous amount. My hair was sleek, glossy and so, so soft. Even now, over a month later, my hair is super shiny and in beautiful condition. I loved the colour I was left with, a deep, rich, luminescent red-brown. After about 5 washes, the rich brown toned down and the colour settled to a pretty hue which is more red but still deeper than my natural dark brown.

I have received *so* many compliments on my hair since applying this colour. While I really love my natural colour, it's been lovely to change it up a bit. I've had to alter my makeup slightly, but that's been fun too! I have another pack of colour ready to apply when my regrowth dictates it, but that won't be for some time. This is a great product!

I just love trialling at-home hair colorants, each one is unique in their own way and this time I was so excited to trial Schwarzkopf Brilliance Night Diamonds Collection in 85 Violet Vision. Now I have always been a dark brown/ black hair colour kind-of-girl my whole life with no reflect, basic one colour and I have a pale complexion so I thought I'd go crazy and try… purple … and I am actually really loving the effect.
As I applied this colorant myself I have to say that it was not as easy as a foam application – I made a terrible mess of my hairline front and back and found it wasn't easy for me to get off my skin –oops! The mixture left my hair very stringy and hard to keep in one place as I was applying (my length is a bob-like cut so bits were falling out of the pile as I coloured). That was one hurdle. The other hurdle was when it was time to wash the colour out – seriously it took me about an hour to get the entire colour out, but in saying that I don't have really long hair and all the colour from the bottle was used up. As for all other aspects I loved Brilliance – the colour only took 30 minutes to develop, covered all the greys in my part which are so hard to hide normally, the capsule of the diamond gloss serum really gave my hair that boost of shine I was anticipating and the colour shine conditioner was very nourishing as an after colour treatment. I didn't mind the smell of the colour as the ammonia wasn't that intense and I loved the change from a boring brown to a sparkling, vibrant purple.
Part of the trial was to also take before and after photos, the light really plays a trick on you with this purple shade as some angles make the hair look red and other angles it's purple. As soon as I arrived back at work from the weekend when I had applied the colour I had so many compliments and had so many questions fired at me on my new colour. Compared to the new brands on the market I have trialled that offer no ammonia and use fruit oils etc., I have to report that this permanent colour is so much more vibrant and shiny, the coverage and colour is so even all the way through with the results lasting longer -weeks later still amazing.

This was possibly one of my favourite trial teams so far since it was the perfect timing! I was longing to colour my hair and this was the perfect product at the perfect time and has given me the perfect results that I was after!
I have no complaints at all with this product and having waist-length hair, I have tried and tested them all!
Having naturally dark brown hair, and olive skin tone, I chose a shade that I thought would complement my skin tone as well as help lift the current colour of my hair, so I chose a medium auburn/brown colour called chocolate rush. I wasnt sure what to expect, however, I was happily surprised :) My hair now looks healthier, glossier than ever, it has a beautiful reddish brown tint to it and has even bought me a few extra weeks to get a haircut!
The packaging was like any basic hair dye, good instructions, sturdy packaging and very user friendly. My favourite part was the that this little brilliant shine gloss pod which is added to the developer before colouring- it is the definition of "amazing" now almost 2-3 weeks after colouring my hair and plenty of washes, I can still feel and see the effect of this with the gloss and shine in my hair which I absolutely love!
There is no overpowering smell to the actual hairdye, and the nice smell of the conditioner helps remove majority of that smell after the hair has been washed.
Since I have waist length hair, I did need to use two bottles, but I was able to apply the colour all over by myself with minimal mess and covered my whole hair in less than 15 minutes. Also what I loved about this since I am quite clumsy at times, is that the product doesnt cause any stains if you accidentally spill it on your face/hands/ears/neck, everything seemed to wash off in the shower!
I am certainly enjoying the complements I am getting from people even weeks after colouring my hair- especially when I go out in the sun and my hair gleams and glistens and makes me feel like australia's next top model ;)

This is my usual hair dye, i go for it every time. I have tried colours violet vison and ultra violet and both are fantastic.

I have dark brown hair so its hard to find colours with a bit of vibrance that will show up and last. This product is fantastic, i always get a vibrant colour that will last for months before fading and amazingly priced.

I usually pick this product up for around $10-12AUD at priceline.

Been using this for years - covers very well, makes my hair super soft and shiny and is pretty well priced. Also, I know it's safe - i've never had a reaction to the formula.

I have been using the Blue Black for the last 2 years and I cannot believe the brilliance and shine it gives to my hair. I'm naturally dark brown hair but it covers greys well and makes my tired looking hair have a healthy gloss! Only issue is that I have to buy in bulk, firstly I need two boxes as I have long thick hair (so more supermarket specials on the range please!) and the blue black seems to always be out of stock when I try to buy from Priceline or supermarket! (Hence when I do see them around especially on special I stock up!) . Easy application, fast developing time, great conditioning. Love this range! The ammonia / smell is the only negative as its so strong .

I use Hypnotic Red (37). My hair is naturally dark brown with a touch of grey at the temples. This colour gives an intense red glow to my hair - in the sunlight it is dramatic. I have used this product for the past 2 years, and have no intention of changing to any other product. I touch up regrowth every 4+ weeks. I leave on for a total of 40 minutes including 20 minutes regrowth.

The perfect DIY Hair dye! Not only does it look like I have just stepped out of the hairdressers but it gives my hair great texture and volume. I am naturally blonde but love colouring my hair either dark browns, blue-black or black. Your product has always given me great colour and makes my blue eyes stand out!

I have light brown hair and decided that I wanted to dye the tips of my hair… so I went to the supermarket and bought a Brilliance red colour. I had no idea how do this but using online tips and your Red Violet hair dye, I managed to create this effect and my hair looks GREAT!!!
