Model hair transformations to inspire you
Nothing puts a spring in your step more than a hair transformation to completely update your look. On last night's episode of Australia's Next Top Model, these beauties left their locks in the capable hands of the professionals, and the end results will seriously impress you.
To inspire you to mix up your own hair, we got the lowdown on these major model makeovers from Hair Director of the TRESemmé styling team, Joh Bailey.
When less is more
When you have beautiful hair, it’s best not to mess with it too much. Ever heard the saying, ‘if it ain’t broke?’ Joh added a few highlights to Lauren's locks to lighten and brighten “which was simple with her already gorgeous balayage”, and finished it off with a good cut to freshen up the ends. The result? Bouncy, beautiful, honey-hued hair.
To get texture a la Lauren, spritz sea salt spray from the midsection down, and lightly scrunch your hair. Hello, tousled perfection!
Joh said this was his favourite makeover of the season - and we can certainly see why! That copper hue suits Jess’ complexion to a tee and gives her a model edge. When your colour fades, it can start to wash out your skin, so stay on top of those tresses and prevent that from happening. A good chop will amp up the impact even more.
Enhance your colour with a smoothing treatment to lock in shine and keep flyaways at bay. If you’ve got volume like Jess, don’t be afraid to experiment with texture. Hair this good shouldn’t be kept on a leash.
Chop it off
When you’ve got a lot of hair like Phoebe, your other features can get lost under your locks. Hence, the chop, and a dramatic hair change at that!. See how it opens up her face and makes her eyes look bigger and brighter? The creamy blonde and sharp cut complement her skin tone beautifully.
Waves for days
This haircut makes me want to book an appointment STAT. Joh certainly knew what he was doing when he lopped all that dried-out balayage off Lucy’s hair! Going shorter has definitely benefited the brunette beauty - she looks stylish and youthful, and her hair screams ‘health’. It’s proof a cut and a good colour can go a long way. Hello fuller-looking hair!
If you love Lucy’s perfectly imperfect waves like we do, apply a wave foam to the ends of damp hair. The natural wave of her strands creates the illusion of highlights, and gives her thin hair oomph.
Despite this being “the biggest challenge considering our time restrictions”, Joh definitely delivered a killer new Tanhya! If you have great skin like this beauty, you’ll be able to pull off most colours, but in the model’s case, the shift to blonde makes her look far more lively and vibrant. This girl’s got some serious bone structure, too, so if you’re as lucky as Tahnya, don’t grow your hair out one length - go for sharp cuts and face-framing layers.
If you’re making the dramatic change from brunette to blonde or blonde to brunette, remember to be kind to your strands - they’re going through a lot right now.
