3 prettied-up ponytails for your formal night

So your formal’s coming up! Ooh lucky you! How exciting it all is.
I bet you’ve got your frock ready to go, your purse picked out – not to mention a smashing pair of shoes to match. The only thing missing is the perfect hair ‘do, right?
You don’t have to worry if you’re not a hair whiz. Great hairstyles are all about the accessories – and if you rock a simple style and team it with a bit of bling that’s bang on trend, then you can rely on that to do the talking for you.
Check out three of the best simple (yet totally awesome) prettied-up ponytails for your big night…
BEFORE YOU START:
For all three ponytail looks, brushed-out curls are a must. These glamorous waves will provide you with a perfect curvy silhouette that cascades beautifully down your back.
Check out our video tutorial on how to create perfect brushed-out waves, here…
PONYTAIL #1: TWISTED SISTER
For this modern look, we create shapes around the crown of your head by loosely twisting the hair on either side of your head inwards before securing into a ponytail and finishing with the metal ponytail holder. This look is perfect for the girl who wants a chic ‘do, without taking all of the attention from her frock…
Step one:
Part your hair in the centre of your head and gather your fringe pieces from one side of your head in one hand.
Step two:
Begin to loosely roll your fringe piece inwards into your head, picking up more hair as you go. Keep going until all of the hair from your fringe to your ear is collected in the twist.
Step three:
Secure with two criss-crossed bobby pins that are hidden under your hair.
Step four:
Scoop your waves into a mid-to-low ponytail and secure with a hair elastic. Loosen the twists using your fingers if they feel a bit ‘tight’.
Step five:
Wrap the Lady Jayne Metal Collection Ponytail Semi-Cuff in Rose Gold around your elastic until tight.
PONYTAIL #2: SKY HIGH SASSPOT
For this look, the aim is to get as much height into the crown of your ‘do as possible. This will provide a more elegant feel to your ponytail and coincide nicely with a Gatsby-style get-up, if that’s the look you’re going for.
Step one:
Begin by sectioning your hair horizontally across the top of your head from ear to ear. Using a teasing brush (like Lady Jayne’s Teasing Brush), backcomb the middle section of the front piece of hair.
Step two:
Once the front of your hair is backcombed, position the Lady Jayne Volume Styl’r securely near the parting with the sponge section facing towards the front and the teeth facing towards the back of your head.
Step three:
Once secure, smooth the front pieces of your hair over the top of the Volume Styl’r with a brush. Once you’re happy with the shape your hair makes when smoothed over the top, secure with a hair elastic at the base of the back of your head.
Step four:
To finish off this look, wrap the Lady Jayne Metal Collection Ponytail Cuff in Gold around your hair elastic until secure.
PONYTAIL #3: BRAIDED BEAUTY
This low-slung ponytail is perfect for the boho girl who wants a hair look that’s pretty but not too structured by design. The wispy, whimsical elements of this hairstyle counteract the edginess of the metal cuff with gusto.
Step one:
Begin by taking a piece of hair from each side of your head as if you’re creating a fishtail braid. Begin your fishtail braid and stop once you’ve braided a few inches down the length of your hair. (Don’t know how to fishtail braid? Watch our tutorial here…)
Step two:
Fasten with a hair elastic and pull on the pieces of your fishtail braid until it becomes loose and pieces fall naturally around your face.
Step three:
To finish off the look, simply fasten the Lady Jayne Metal Collection Metal Ponytail Bow around your elastic until secure.
Which ponytail look do you like the most? Which look would you be most likely to wear yourself?
