How to pull off hair accessories as an adult

Most of us tend to associate hair accessories with our childhood, Melbourne Cup Day or the early 2000s. But there is a way to pull off hair accessories as an adult, at any time of the year. We’re not talking about bringing the butterfly clips back, we're talking about metal hair accessories.

Celebrity hairstylist Jen Atkin, who recently collaborated on a collection of headbands with Chloe + Isabel, says the key to pulling off hair accessories as an adult is metal. Hair pins, headbands and other accessories in gold, rose gold and silver can look glam and sophisticated.

"Metal hair accessories are a great way to dress up any look and take your hair from day to night, or throw in after a cycle class and head to dinner with your girls," Jen told Popsugar.
Our favourite girl, Chrissy Teigen has previously worn a gorgeous golden headband.

Vanessa Hudgens has also rocked a gold hair accessory.

Lupita Nyong'o even wore a gold headband to the 2014 Academy Awards.

These look beautiful! I haven't worn hair accessories since I was a teenager. I have been considering it a little more lately. I would love to buy the hair tie with the metal clasp. Simple but adds a bit of style.

Headbands don't suit me, but a barrette clip is a must for me.

Love hair accessories! Have gold headband, but on me looks weird like on Chris Tegan. On Lupita though...so beautiful! I'm wearing it only indoors when face masking.

I love headbands, but they tend to give me a headache so I end up taking it off. I love the one Lupita is wearing.

I adore hair embellishments yet as long as they are straightforward and not over the best, metal ones are less demanding to pull off yet I can't envision that a large number of the metal headbands would be agreeable. hair transplant in Pakistan

Sometimes if I'm wearing some hair accessory I don't feel the need to wear jewellery when going out and about.

I love hair accessories. Sometimes I do feel a bit gauche wearing hair accessories. Almost like I'm trying to hard. Chrissy Teigen looks great in this photo.

There are limits to hair accessories and when they are done well you can look amazing...alternatively when you do them poorly they look appalling...taste and restraint are good ...and less is more when you also want to wear jewellery and make-up!

I used to love hair accessories but find it harder to wear as an adult. Headbands are cute but so uncomfortable

If you can wear it still & look good on you yeah why not. It's about mixing your hair up with some of these & rocking it with style :)

I have long light brown straight hair, and there are times when you just add a sled or hairband to Finnish your outfit.

I have long hair, and I love using thick headbands (as I have a bit of a messed up hairline) I find the colour looks quite nice, even though metal is more chic

It's been years since I wore a hair accessory. The last time was when my hair was longer. I used a scarf around my pony tail so that the 2 ends trail.

I love hair accessories but as long as they are simple and not over the top, metal ones are easier to pull off but I cannot imagine that many of the metal headbands would be comfortable.
