My name is Olivia and I’m a casualty of my own ghd

There’s a reason why hair straighteners work so well, they’re hot and shiny and can burn you easily! I learnt this lesson not once, but twice in the same straightening session and I have a feeling that this particular lesson is going to be branded onto my brain for a while…

So picture this. There I was, Saturday night, innocently prepping my locks into a sleek straight ‘do for a night out with the girls, trying to get my strands poker straight from root to tip when OUCH! I ironed my ghd a little too close to my hairline and felt the consequences. You see, even a straightening whiz can get it very, seriously wrong at times – so it’s important (and if you saw my marked head you’d believe me) to be extra careful when going down the straight and narrow.

My top tips for effortless, painless straightening are:

– Use a big round brush to roll the section straight, pull an inch or two from the root, clamp the styler just off the roots and unravel the brush down the hair with the straightener following closely behind. This will also provide a more thorough straighten.

– Make sure you are constantly watching what you’re doing! That means no tuning into gossip girl mid-straighten. A big burn mark takes a little more than liquid concealer to hide.

– If you do happen to burn yourself, don’t fret. Get some ice on that thing quick smart! Then maybe contemplate a fringe?

What is your worst hair mishap?
