Bigger is better

Bigger is better

It seems this was the general consensus at the annual MET Ball in New York earlier this week. Anne Hathaway bouffed it up, as did Rihanna (hair and sleeve-wise), Selma Blair went for the cone-head look and finally, finally, Aggy showed off a new – Marilyn-inspired – ‘do.

So what’s a girl who’s desperately seeking volume to do?

Well first up, step away from the comb. I’m serious. If you comb wet hair flat to your head as soon as you’re out the shower, they’ll be no chance of pumping up the volume a little later. Hair will just stay flat. You have been warned.

Your best bet is to towel-dry hair, then get stuck in with your hands to get some natural movement going before you do anything else. This will stop hair drying so limply which means, in turn, you get more from your blow-dry.

Also bear in mind that length can make hair flatter. It makes sense really, the heavier the hair, the more the roots will be pulled, and hence the flatter your tresses will be. So now might be the time to embrace that shorter ‘do.

Also try these va va voom bits and bobs:

Goldwell Styling Volume Power Whip – this mousse gives long-lasting strong, elastic hold. It was also an RAFW staple.

L’Oréal Professionnel Tecni.art Volume Architect – this thickening blow-dry lotion is perfect for fine, delicate, baby-strand hair. It thickens and texturises while also protecting against harsh blow-dry heat.

Schwarzkopf Extra Care Volume Styling Hairspray – this gives a ‘push up’ effect to ensure maximum volume that holds all day long.

Indola Innova Volume Shampoo – this shampoo, rich in sea minerals, has a weightless formula and gently works to strengthen the hair from within.

Could your hair do with a lil’ somethin’ somethin’ or are you okay in the volume stakes?
