The blonde-haired, blue-eyed, dressed head-to-toe in pink Barbie we once knew has taken a step to the side.
Ever since Barbie-maker Mattel announced that they, as a company, want to provide a “multi-dimensional view of beauty and fashion” and “represent global diversity and inclusivity”, we’ve seen a range Barbies that more closely represents real people.

Barbies with no hair, prosthetic limbs, disabilities, skin conditions, varying body shapes, ethnicities and hairstyles; making it a priority for children to be able to identify themselves within their own dolls and also to learn about and celebrate all the differences from person to person within our society.

And now thanks to this modern Barbie fashion, we have the latest on-trend doll as part of the BMR1959 collection. She’s dressed head-to-toe in “today’s hottest streetwear trends” with NO detail spared, not even the purple baby hairs.
Think ‘90s, with the chunky yellow sneaker, logo gold statement earrings, boxy houndstooth blazer over a neon crop top and skirt ensemble.
It’s safe to assume the bright coloured lavender and pink toned hair was Barbie’s nod to the COVID-19 lockdown hair experiments, which have taken 2020 by storm. And in a sentence we never thought we’d write, her neatly swirled baby hairs (which match her nails, of course) are giving us hair envy.
Amongst the baby-haired fashionista, is another doll representing yet another unexpected hair trend that COVID-19 gave birth to, the two toned blonde and brunette we saw Kylie Jenner rocking.

No wonder Barbie has lasted the test of time, lol. They are trying to keep up with the times so that’s good I guess.
I Love This! The fashion, the pink! Yay Barbie.
Some amazing Barbie Dolls these days even working Barbie in different jobs like a Vet, Pediatrician, Doctor, Nurse and Teacher so very versatile in every way.
Barbie has certainly Come Along Way!
Tbh, she looks pretty glam for a Covid-19 Barbie – if it was up to me she’d be in trackies!
Yeh they certainly are Sparkle!! ; )
A fun article!! lol nope not really a barbie fan but probably because I’ve had enough of all of that because I had three daughters who have all had their barbie ‘stage’ as they were growing up. I never got a barbie as a girl but I really wanted one – one would have done the job but my parents were not interested in buying me one. Instead I got a ‘Patch’ doll with freckles which I didn’t really like and definitely didh’t want. Got to buy plenty of barbies though when I had my own daughters! Now, we have all outgrown them.
Nope, never been a “fan” of dolls (find those things bizarre to say the least). Do love that blazer and yellow sneaker look. Oh yes!
I loved barbie dolls growing up and I’m so glad that they are making it more inclusive
about time
It looks good
Been loving these new barbies! so much more style and character than the ones we used to be limited to as kids.
I never had a Barbie. I do like the new versions. Thank goodness Mattel have finally realised we aren’t blonde with an unattainable body.
I saw a documentary a few years back where a journalist went into the Barbie designers office. It looked awesome. Somewhere you would expect Barbie to live.
More inclusive Barbie dolls is a great idea.
Cute! I was never interested in Barbie dolls. But these are a wonderful idea.
I always wanted one when I was younger but they were so expensive!
That is so true!
It’s great that they are professionals!
I feel like the new Barbies still have a really small bodies.
Wow, Barbie has changed! Still very vain.
It will be interesting to see how the sales go and the interest in the new styles of dolls
I use to love Barbie and Cindy
Moves in the right direction, but probably could do with a few more changes.
I had a barbie when i was a kid. The one I had came with hair pieces and also her hair could grow. You pulled on it and you could make the hair longer or shorter. That was pretty cool
I never had a Barbie doll and was more of a tomboy , playing footy and marbles with the boys ! I do like the look of these Barbies though .
I had a Barbie and a Barbie camper van, Preferred my Cindy doll as you could bend her legs.
I agree! More changes are needed.
That sounds pretty cool!
Was Cindy, Barbie’s friend? I can’t remember who she was.
Was it really expensive? It sounds like it was really unique.
It really was. I was the only one of my friends that had one like that.
I don’t really like what Barbie stands for, but I like these changes!
I have no idea Ellyloves We were never allowed to talk to our parents about financial matters back then and certainly never allowed to ask how much something cost but I was so young at that stage that I doubt the cost of something was even a concern for me.
I have baby hairs and an ex used to pull the p*ss out of me for them. Hence he is an ex.
Same LadyLola! Omg, marbles…loved those lil’ glass balls. Growing up in european country it was ball everything: handball, marbles, football, basketball, volleyball…but also dice, cards and war games.
No, she wasn’t affiliated with Barbie. Cindy was just another doll, this was in the late 70’s, early 80’s. Think she wore a ballet outfit. You can’t buy them anymore. I don’t really remember playing with dolls that much but I did love my Cindy doll preferred Cindy to Barbie.
Never have been a Barbie or Cindy fan but if you are a doll person go for it !
Never was interested in dolls when I was a kid, now they are cool!
I loved Barbie when I was young. I won a Barbie in a school raffle, and she came with a bunch of clothes that were hand knitted by the lady who ran the school office. I was so excited!
I never played with dolls, nor did my daughter, but I do like the changes.
I had dolls but I don’t remember having a Barbie doll probably because I was 10 when Barbie arrived in Australia.
I had a barbie and ken and I have no idea where they are now
That must be an exciting day!!
Me too. Marbles, knuckles, volley ball, rugby and weight lifting with the boys. Loved to collect little cars not dolls. Maybe it is a European background thing? Polish mother, Yugoslav/Turkish father. I was a tough kid!
awaits the day for a grey hair regrowth barbie
I had a Cindy and a Lisa (Japanese doll), but no Barbie
Ew why? he sounds awful, glad he’s an ex hahaha
Those Barbies are so cute!
I had many barbies as a kid but I never cared about what she looked like or that she didn’t look like me…Barbies were just fun to play with!
I loved Barbie growing up. It’s nice that Barbie is representing diversity and adversity. I’m sure I gave a few of my Barbies makeovers and haircuts that I later regretted.
Haha!! This is hilarious! My baby hairs are a pain in the butt!!
I love that they are being more inclusive.
